Highly unlikely. Consider how easy it is to get a driver's license. Literally hundreds of thousands of people can drive. However, far less people are capable train pilots(especially magnetic trains). A train pilot is far more skilled and trained to drive a train, than a person to drive a car. You need to go to school and training to learn to drive a train. So the train pilot will keep the train much straighter than a car driver. Even if you take the best car driver, the best train driver will still keep the train straighter. Even robots cannot match the finesse and skill of a seasoned train pilot.

Consider for a moment how advanced the piloting technology in fighter jets is. But they are still manned by human pilots. Why? Because humans are more capable of piloting than AI systems.

Even if there is friction if the net Acceleration on the two systems is the same their speeds will be equivalent.

The car however will take far more energy to travel the same distances as train as it has to constantly exert a force in order to maintain its speed unlike the train which just needs an initial push to get it going.

In short, the car has a constant force being exerted on it but as its speeds not changing it doesn't have a net acceleration and all its forces are in equilibrium (friction = propelling force).

There are no parallel forces acting on the train and therefore it's acceleration is also zero.

Both will travel at the same velocity but if you value not going bankrupt on an energy bill you'll opt for the train.

This. You worded it better than I did.

Their speeds won't change because even though the car is wasting way more energy to maintain its 200mph it is still traveling st 200mph.

200mph is a rate of change over time. If both the train and car are displacing a certain distance at the same time that means their changing their position at equal rates. Their speeds are equivalent however the car is exponentially less efficient maintaining that speed.

It depends on the context. If this thread came up in like the year 2116 then it is possible an auto piloted car might have the same degree of precision as the train. But with current technology I still think the train would be faster. Humans have to train the robots, therefore the robot can never surpass humans. It's like how you can't teach someone to be smarter than you; you can only impart as much as you know. Robots can only repeat with consistency greater than a human. I think once humanity and our technology advances, though, it might be a closer race. But it's impossible to say with certainty.

They stated the velocity is the same between the train and the car. They're the same speed. The vector diagram between alinearpath from point A to B if they both travel at 200 km/s will reach the same destination at the same time if nothing obstructs the point of travel from either vehicle. They're the same velocity in a vacuum and it's the same velocity if it's 200 km/s ramming up your butt. They travel at the same velocity...It's a different matter if the vehicle travels at a non-linear path with many different types of friction acting upon it.

If two cars are parked next to each other, one a very fast sports car, and the other a very slow econobox, and someone was asked which car is faster and they answered the sports car, would they be wrong since they are both going exactly 0mph? Or does potential play into this? If the car is only capable of 200, and the train could easily do 250 or 300, would it be wrong to call the train faster even if they are currently going the same speed?

That's not what the question asked. If they're both travelling at the same velocity, they're traveling the same speed in a direction. Were not accounting other variables that obstruct the vehicles point of destination like a muddy terrain.

The train OP. Trains are longer than cars so if they start at the same spot, obviously the train will finish first (the car will have to catch up with the rest of the train's length).

Amigo if they're travelling at the same speed, what type of question is it if someone asks which one is faster? They're at the same speed even with friction in the car. Decreasing the friction would increase the speed of the train no doubt, but if it's travelling at the same velocity as the car it's not going faster than it. You might have to review your basic physics from high school senior.

Both objects have different force vectors applied to them due to the difference in friction and wind resistance, but at the end of the day they both achieve a speed of 200mph.

It might take the train 100 Newtons to achieve a speed of 200 mph
It may take the car 10000000000000000000 Newtons to achieve a speed of 200mph

But they are both traveling 200 mph.
