I feel incredibly proud to be British because of these Olympics.

Not only are we over-achieving in numerous sports for a relatively small nation, but our athletes are an absolute credit to the British people. So humble, so happy to win. They are coming across as well spoken, hard-working winners.

None of the bravado the Americans show (like the gymnastics team - America fukk yeh attitudes). Huge smiles and togetherness in the team events.

The BBC coverage has also been awesome. The explanations by the commentators and presenters have been brilliant and also their enthusiasm for Britain to do well is inspired.

The Olympics is HUGE. Remember, Team GB relies on lottery money, not government funds like most other nations.

Not many Brits actually compete in these sports nationally, way way less than the US. Probably even way less per capita I'd say. But that is a guess.

It's a healthy friendly rivalry, and it's only a thing because our countries are undoubtedly the two greatest in recent history.

As we have tried to advise Ameribrahs many times, you have never won a war on your own, as per yahoo, Wikipedia etc.:

The USA entered WW1 as a decisive factor, but by no means as the only deciding factor. For example, the influenza epidemic struck the German Army viciously just as it was launching its last

Also the #1 fighting force in WW1 on the Western Front in terms of efficiency and inflicting damage was the Canadian forces. In WW2 the USA entered the war two years after New Zealand did so. Hollywood and highly nationalistic history books have greatly distorted the sacrifices of the USA in WW2. For example,
the USSR lost more soldiers in the singular Battle of Stalingrad than the USA lost in soldiers in all the war in both theatres of the war combined. There was also the myth that the USA enabled the USSR to fight, but the USSR's policy was to build all its war machines and weaponry - and did so - but certainly the USSR was aided with other essential war goods such as corrugated tin and waterproof communications cable...

The USA was involved in Vietnam far earlier than most Americans realize. For example, CIA pilots flew French marked planes at the Battle of Dien Ben Phu<sp> and helped resupply the French forces. In a great sense - some would say arrogant sense - the USA took over the French war effort there with the attitude that the French were just inadequate and that the USA could 'easily' accomplish what the French failed to do.

Most wars involve foreign involvement of some nature. The U.S. Civil War, for example, involved a tremendous amount of foreign involvement ie. the C.S.A. was loaned/granted the ability to issue bonds based on its dealings with the house of either Erlanger or Rothchilde. Britain sold the CSA numerous arms ie. the raiders CSS Alabama and CSS Florida which caused along with other raiders enormous damage to the Union's merchant fleet. Whitworth cannons and mortars and Lee-Enfield
rifles were sold to the CSA. Meanwhile, Britain also traded heavily with the Union in regard to wheat and other agricultural products... France, even surrepticiously offered a deal to Texas in which France would recognize the sovereignty of Texas if it would secede from the CSA and become a buffer state with Mexico. The Vatican is the only foreign power to officially grant the CSA formal recognition.

Wars are ugly...but there's also that famous quote that wars are simply foreign policy conducted by other more forceful means. The USA is nor 'special'; it blunders into wars and ugly alliances just like all other nations have done historically. I was reading a book awhile back where a 19th century observer visited the USA and was impressed by the USA's system of forts used to combat and control native American uprisings. He took the observations he had made and applied them to Afghanistan..."
