So after 20+ years I've basically quit lifting. AMA.

i wouldnt be surprised if i ended up doing a bunch of low life dergs, becoming a 9-5 drone, and playing video games all the time if i didnt find lifting. i dont want to sound egotistical but i am more disciplined than most of my peers and its because of lifting. it has transfered into my personal goals, academic goals, professional goals, etc.

Becoming a doctor, financial analyst, getting into a top MBA program, starting a business is hard work. Trust me you don't sound egotistical you sound like an idiot.

lifting for 20 years and not enjoy it? sounds like a terrible marriage.... i guess the divorce was much needed; good luck. cycling is pretty challenging; if it ever gets dull, you can incorporate triathlon training into the mix

Surprised it took you 20 years to quit.
Once the realisation thatnobody cares how big/jacked you arehit me, I started doing way more cardio and supplementing it with bodyweight exercises. Cardio honestly makes you feel on top of the world.
Maybe if I was a manlet I'd feel more insecure about my physical stature, and try to compensate via lifting.

It was the best decision I ever made (serious)
I'm much happier now that I don't lift. It's a relief.

I don't care nearly as much as I once did. Have other priorities n ****.
I even started doing cardio. But that's cuz I have horrendous high blood pressure.

I got into it to see how strong and fit I can get.... and now I've done that. Like, why continue forward?

If you already have a wife or GF and go too far backwards it will have a negative effect on your sex life that you'll really have to overcome in other areas. I'm sorry it's just biology.
If I could be 180 to 190 and 12% Jesus life would be good.

I've started losing again. Doing keto. But all my fat is abdomen and chest. Legs ass are lean. Hips really lean. The fat starts immediately above my hips like a ski belt. I have very narrow hips so it makes it look worse.
I look like a block Roman numeral five.

There is no doubt that as you age and get past the whole zyzzbrah aesthetics phase, cardiovascular health is of much more importance than silly weights

Being healthy/fit over-all became I priority once I got older. When I stopped following a specific routine and started doing my own thing/what I feel like doing. Stopped worrying about 'progression' (Weight, reps, size, etc.) and just started focusing on getting a good workout and getting a pump I began enjoying it a lot more.
If I don't feel like hitting the gym or am too busy I don't stress missing a day. I do lots of stretching, super sets, drop sets, etc. and keep my heart rate up. I take shorter rest periods. I don't worry about ego lifts or the amount of weight I'm moving. Etc. Lifting is a lot more sustainable. It doesn't matter if I hit the gym and after 30 minute feel like calling it quits. Or if I'm feeling energized/awesome and spend 90 minutes. Don't worry about it.
Gym is my 'me' time where I can blaze some music, mire some HBB's, get my heart rate up, and get a pump. I leave feeling good/energized/happy 90% of the time. Key is don't put pressure on yourself and enjoy what you do.

It's push day today but I have no time. My 15yo has a football game at 6:30. That's more important.
But I might have my 12yo lay on me and do push ups before the game because they do have a dip station right outside the stadium.
Just get creative Busta.

After nearly a decade of lifting, I quit for about 8-9 months. Just got back into it Tuesday.

Now 43
Viewed it as a horribly boring chore for the last 20 years
Now I concentrate on cardio more (cycling on rollers)
Still lift a tiny amount after ever cardio session, to avoid acute atrophy
So far I feel more positive about going into the gym and no longer give many phucks about it.

I know that feel OP. I've only lifted once or twice in the last 3 months.
I much prefer staying active and in shape by playing sports (currently boxing 3-4x/week) and doing some pushups and pullups 1-2x/week
