I wonder if these people knew how illogical, irate and prone to suicide they would become, would they have stuck to being their original sex.

People's gender label is central to their identity and is something that millions of people struggle with, especially when others try to trivialize their problems. It has nothing to do with mental illness can be biologically and neurologically explained, just like homosexuality and bisexuality can be explained. There's a spectrum of different identities that people feel compatible with, just like there's a spectrum associated with sexual orientation. Your red t shirt example is your attempt to be edgy and is not at all analogous to this issue. Nobody said that we should ban anything, you could be an ass hole if you want to be. They're just asking you to be a decent human being and show compassion to people part of a marginalized group. It's not that hard.

This isn't true. On what basis are you supporting this?

Socialization processes, parents, or peers encouraging play with gender specific toys are thought to be the primary force shaping sex differences in toy preference. A contrast in view is that toy preferences reflect biologically determined preferences for specific activities facilitated by specific toys. Sex differences in juvenile activities, such as rough and tumble play, peer preferences, and infant interest, share similarities in humans and monkeys. Thus if activity preferences shape toy preferences, male and female monkeys may show toy preferences similar to those seen in boys and girls. We compared the interactions of 34 rhesus monkeys, living within a 135 monkey troop, with human wheeled toys and plush toys.Male monkeys, like boys, showed consistent and strong preferences for wheeled toys, while female monkeys, like girls, showed greater variability in preferences. Thus, the magnitude of preference for wheeled over plush toys differed significantly between males and females. The similarities to humanfindings demonstrate that such preferences can develop without explicit gendered socialization.

The key word is preferences. Not all men and women are the same. Some men may biologically be attracted to female activities or toys growing up, while women vice versa. Gender is a fluid concept and should be understood as totally separate from sex.

I don't get this argument from republicans. Just because it's not a 'huge problem' doesn't mean people shouldn't address it. We can come together as a community and solve multiple problems at the same time, no matter how small or big they are.

It's what I was taught in college psychology classes and it makes sense to me intuitively as well.
Did you know pink used to be a manly color? After returning from battle with faded blood stains the men were pink.

Now it's associated with women instead of men. It's a society thing.
The same can be said of high heels. High heels used to be for men. Now they're associated with women.

I am not saying that individual men and women can't have different preferences. I am addressing that gender is solely a social construct and haydee said our preferences are not determined by chromosomes. Yet there are numerous studies to support otherwise, such as what I posted. What your sex is can definitely impact your preference.

Yes I knew that. I did not say that preferences can't be influenced by society, because they definitely can be. But your assertion that it is all society, and chromosomes have no role is wrong. There are numerous studies showing male preferences without any societal influences, such as the one I posted.

As a side note psychology is one of less credible of sciences. Look up the replication crisis. Over half of psychology studies fail when attempted to be replicated.

Whether or not sex impacts gender isn't my point.
In fact with common sense and a pair of eyes, you can simply look around and see that most people with a male sex identify with a male gender. By this alone we can reasonably conclude that an influence does exist!

My point is that gender is not defined by your sex.
It's like saying poor people vote democrat. Maybe they do, maybe there is an influence, but that doesn't mean you have to be a democrat just because you're poor. People are individuals, we're complex and are not defined by a single influential factor.

You can be feminine as a man, and you can be masculine as a female. Holy chit why is this so hard to understand. Society has gone completely fukin insane. No, gender and sex are not different things. They are synonyms and they always have been. You people are just playing word games. If you XX chromosomes, you are female. If you are XY, you are male. Point blank. Period. If you have any other combination you have a genetic disorder and are an outlier.

Just because you decide not to display traditional gender stereotypes doesn't mean you are actually the opposite gender. Whatever happened to tomboys, twinks, and dykes? These days it seems like if someone shows even the slightest attributes of the opposite gender it is encouraged to label themselves trans-gendered. There is nothing wrong with being butch. There is something wrong if you think you have the right to force everyone to call you a man when you have a fukin vagina.

Quite hilarious that all the trans nonsense comes from the radical feminist left, who fought for decades to claim there was no such thing as gender and that it was just a social construct created by the patriarchy to keep women oppressed. Now they are fighting to claim that gender is an innate biological trait. lmfao

Plenty of social constructs are influenced by biology.
That doesn't mean that they aren't social constructs.

I'm not a Republican and the issue is so minuscule that it's not worthy of my time. Homosexuals and transgendered people are not under siege in this country. I live in the south and if its hardly a problem here, it's hardly a problem anywhere. I don't know a single bible thumping person that really cares what you do with your friends or yourself. No, i'm not obligated to care or treat certain people like special snowflakes. Leave me alone and i'll leave you alone. Pretty simple.

A friend of mine called his friend "bro" at the gym. A SJW scolded him for cultural appropriation.

If you told me this would be happening 20 years ago, I would have laughed in your face for being so stupid.

Just think how terrifying things will be 20 years from now.

Extreme movements meltdown in spectacular fashion, this should get really interesting right at the conclusion.

honestly..im confused as fuk at this issue. i think some SJW are smarter than you think

I think a lot of their viewpoint starts from the fact that there's no stagnant "you"; this is a well known philosophical standpoint as well. hell, we probably acknowledge it throughout our lives but are never really confronted with the issue. think about how you are different as a child as you are an adult

if you look at the brain psychologically there is no "you" - as a physical entity and being cerebrally. at best it is just a set of beliefs

however, if you drop that.. all of the sudden you'll see a lot of hate and chit dissipate.

on the flip side, there is a(n) physical living separate entity if you look at it biologically; i.e. your body.

that still doesn't negate the fact that if you drop it from a cerebral standpoint you'll start to see the hate dissipate as well.

MEANWHILE, a strict subset of beliefs that people are supposed to adhere to is the only way to act amicably in society.

i can't figure it out.. dead srs. I think the solution is to have strict standards that everybody appeals to but im just giving a tiny bit of credence to people's potential problems

low IQ conservative nutjob detected. Just because you're so closed minded and unable to understand the complexity of something like gender and the factors associated with people's identification with it, doesn't mean it's not a real concept. Sex is strictly a biological definition based on people's reproductive functions, gender is largely defined based on the cultural and societal differences between individuals. Biology can play a factor, but it's not the only one at play. This is a losing battle for you and the rest of the redneck population, sadly to say. No matter how much you cry, scream, and yell, gender fluidity and tolerance will persevere. If history is any indication, then people like you will be cast into the shadows of society soon enough. 50 years ago straight white males thought that blacks and whites shouldn't be mixing and form relationships with each other. 50 years from now they'll look at people like you with the same level of disgust.

Typical "this is bad so other things are also bad" logic at the end there. The problem here is that the "you win because you tried" generation is finding out that reality is not so nice so they are CREATING new ways to still be that special little snowflake and demanding that everyone play along. This never ends because with a population this big no matter how many tattoos, piercings, hair colors and genders you have you are still going to be a boring old clone of someone else. There was a time when being the best version of yourself was good, now everyone just wants to be that strange little weirdo that needs all kinds of special attention.

The collapse of this generation is going to be hilarious to watch. Intentionally creating an army of fragile degenerates that cant even handle a conversation, yeah, strong stuff.

The problem for students in universities & colleges is that the average person doesn't understand and probably doesn't care about gender issues.

If you are look like a girl and you identify as gender neutral, don't be shocked if someone in the real world identify's you as a female.

Its simply not reasonable for gender warriors to expect people not in the college bubble to be gender aware and use their set of pronouns.

My grandparents barely understand gay/lesbian couples, no chance they can be expected to understand gender issues.

You can expand the gender issue into a range of social justice issues, like BLM, trigger warnings, equality etc....

Simply, social norms that have evolved in colleges are not widely known or understood outside of the college setting.

For me its simple, take this example:

If you are man looking individual who identify's as a female, no problem. But make sure YOU, the individual, should make it known far and wide that you want to be known as a Mrs or miss or whatever you like.

I'm happy to call you anything you like, but if you don't make it clear to me that this is your preferred pronoun and I incorrectly identify you, I won't listen to your BS that I have offended you.

People not in the college/twitter bubble cannot be expected to follow these debates and proponents of various social justice/gender/race issues need to be more understanding of the every person.

Glad there were sane minded people standing beside him though.

That's not true, and you can see it in the behavior of children.

I have a two year old niece who likes to sneak into her mommy's makeup and paint her face up. Now I'm sure she's seen her mommy putting makeup on at one point or another, and she found that appealing. Question is though why? She has a big brother who's into Transformers and Dinosaurs - yet she could not give two fux about any of that. For her birthday I bought her a little princess tiara and it was like winning the lottery for a two year old girl. She wore it all day and refused to take it off even at bedtime.

Point is nobody forced makeup, frilly dresses, and cheap costume jewelry on this child. Of course her parents indulge her with it now - just like her brother with the Transformer toys. But something in each them has found these things appealing to begin with.
It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.
