Anyone did engineering? I need your help to check this (REPS)

I've had several courses with 50-60% finals, but they've always had atleast a midterm (~30%) and some project/quiz/homework. The project/quiz/homework should basically be free marks.
At worst, do whatever you want and just bellcurve the final marks.
TBH I don't really understand why Calc3 and DE are being combined. These are weeder courses and most places seperate them for good reason. I also doubt you can cover both subjects with any depth and expect students to get it within 16wks.
Finally, I understand wanting to build a theoretical base for engineers but in the real world most of them will not be working in engineering and most calculations require only algebra.
At worst, do whatever you want and just bellcurve the final marks.

DE is a sophomore class but there maybe some motivated freshmen in there that got Calc 1/2 done in highschool and then doing DE in the spring in freshmen year. That would be the minority though.Differential equations and vector calculus.

Is this a joke? No text book, no homework, you said no quizzes but now you will throw in 2 of them (whats the point?)... this will be fun to watch. You'd be lucky to have sophmores/juniors pass a class designed like this because they have to be responsible and keep up with material themselves. Freshman will not be that self-motivated.
Also, breaks aren't to study. They're to gather your wits so you can finish the semester without going crazy. Every decent professor will get their exams in before the break. If you're expecting freshmen to spend their first college Spring Break studying for a DE exam you're going to be pretty disappointed.

my freshman engineering classes weren't even BEGINNING to touch on this stuff. you're dealing with kids who are likely coming out of what, calc AB and potentially BC from high school? you're way out of line teaching this stuff to freshman imo. i walked into engineering not even having taken calc in high school..

gl man, failed linear algebra twice and had to switch my major. Class avg gpa was 2.28 and 2.19. **** my life. For contexts sake, my uni is ranking top 50 nationally

W11: nth-order linear constant equations;
W12: Green's function and Laplace transform methods;
W13: Laplace transform methods and applications;
W14: Systems of first-order equations;

W16: FINAL (50%)

here at a UC, vector calc and DE are two seperate classes..
so our engineering requirements for math are only:
Calc I
Calc II
Calc III part.1 (vector calc/multivariable calc)
Calc III part. 2 (vector calc)
Calc IV (ODE)
Math 5 (linear algebra)
and one upper div math
..
so im not sure how plausible it is to teach both vec calc and DE in one quarter. sounds insanse

If you are worth your spit you give a quiz and give it back 3 days before the 'drop date' for your class.
This allows students the ability to depart your insanity -- otherwise expect some seriously hostile feed back and probably your head.
You probably don't get it - but students are extremely viscous and if you piss of the wrong ones they'll loosen the lug nuts on your tires.

Something called mathworks may be useful for online problem sets, so that you only have to mark once (master copy). Would include fourier series because familiarity with this is generally useful for higher level courses. Good problem set questions can be taken from analysis books such as Rudin (solutions are widely available), or Zorich (solutions generally unavailable online), as well as typical adv. calc texts such as Mardsen, Tromba, depending on the level of the class, some lower level problems can be found in James stewart multivariable calculus. When you are teaching integration, would also include something on change of variables (i.e. the determinant of the jacobian formalism) which is useful given that in general, when spherical coordinates are taught, they are generally approached in a geometric argument as to why dxdydz --> r^2 sin(phi) dr d theta d phi, which is more of a pain to recall. Lagrange Multipliers, and multivariable max min is also a topic worth considering, given the wide range of practical applications. Would also try to find some textbooks to recommend to students, given the wide range of content you plan to teach.
