The majority of self-made millionaires live a relatively low-key life. Drive a simple pickup truck or car the majority of the time. No designer clothes/ overly expensive things, etc. Most own their own business.


I know quite a few. Most of them live like they earn about 50k a year.
Your right but on the flip-side in the 1980s if someone earned 8-10k a year that was a livable/damn good wage. I can still remember when I was a child my parents bought their first home for 34K and it was a really big deal. It was a huge mortgage for them.


But yes, its likely the number of millionaires has increased a good deal.
People who own homes in excess of a million dollars is not a millionaire. That home is a liability not an asset. Technically you are in the negative. When your home is paid off you can say you have a million dollars in assets but that still doesn't necessarily make you a millionaire by most peoples standards.





Have a million dollar net worth is attainable but it really isn't the same thing people think of when they picture millionaire. Most people are picturing a million dollars liquid or a large revenue base.

That is why there are more millionaires than you think. They just don't spend all their money on lavish things. My dad has a million in his retirement accounts and his net worth is probably 1.3-1.5 million if you include is house and cars since they are paid off. Yet he drives used cars and lives in a smaller home.

Just because you have the money doesn't mean you need to spend it

I've worked with a lot, my bosses were/are multi-millionaires. Couple of Chinese friends with baller dads. A Paki/Arab friend with an oil sheikh dad. As for my family, my uncle and dad. Dad used to invest in property, bought this particular house 10+ years ago for 100k, now it's worth close to a mill. I will be one too in a few years, believe that.

Granddad is 85 and has around $4-5mil net worth from stocks, 4 rentals. Grew up during the Great Depression and is without a doubt one of the biggest penny pinchers to ever walk the Earth.

Wouldn't turn A/C lower than 85 degrees in the summer
Made grandma live on $100/mon allowance
Refused to pay $200 to fix his 20 year old car, so instead took $100 and let them tow it off.
etc, etc


Not exactly what you imagine when you think of a millionaire.

I have never received more than 40$ from my uncle (and I'm not complaining) yet you get 10k at say he is not generous? fekin *******ed

That would be nice if he were more generous but technically aunts, uncles, in-laws doesn't owe you anything. That would only be your parents.

If it means anything I only got $10 and even then I had to help him with the yard work. My granduncle took me fishing once.That depends on how they made their money. All the ones I know are professionals that have worked their way to the top of their professions. They drive the cars and look the part.When your assets exceed your liability.
