Save enough money to buy a ranch in Bolivia or some chit. Acquire a wife and have a tonne of sons who will work on your ranch.

Just lol at anybody who bothered to reply to this thread. People who earn 40k a year at 25 are far too accomplished to be asking for life advice on a forum full of mentally ill autists.

For those of you who don't know me, I will give you cliffs on my situation:

- Prestigious education raised in upper-middle class family
- Interned at some huge firms in banking, oil & gas and corporate finance
- Work as a junior oil consultant (45 hours) making just under 40,000 ($50,000)
- Because i'm FA (genuine FA), I live at home and save 75% of post-tax
- Take home ~500/week; put 375 straight into savings, live off rest modestly
- No friends, no GF, few direct debits, BMW paid off, so have saved about 10K ($12,500) in last 6 months
- Over Christmas, nothing to do, nobody to see, so I just worked for double overtime pay (srs)
- OP can save 20,000 ($25K) cash per year just doing what he's doing if he accepts this
- I live rent-free in a GOAT house (big wall mounted TVs, thermostats, all modern facilities)
- No reason to really move out, just would be a waste of money on rent


But now i'm starting to feel a bit lost. My life is literally work, gym/run, watch TV, eat, go to bed, repeat. Sometimes (these days often) for 7 days a week when overtime is offered and my parents encourage me to take it because "what's the point rotting all Saturday?"


I have 3 main options right now:


1)I make a radical change. Not because I care about the fact that i'm a 25 year old who lives at home, but just because life feels very monotonous. Something like - Moving to a new city, even taking a massive pay cut and not even saving anything, but re-branding myself as whoever I want. A cool cocky alpha Chad who is actually fun, sociable and bangs girls. Make up stories about being well-travelled, playing in the university basketball team and epic things/fails i've done on dates with women that i've read about on Misc threads. But every time I think about this, I can't help but think i'm going to be the same loser, the same autist, the same FA, just in a new city with a more poverty job and no savings just to live this delusion of "independence and freedom" when I could have just stayed at home with amazing luxuries and thousands of savings.


2)The other thing i've considered is just taking my savings and travelling the world for 6 months. Going to Nepal, Thailand, Australia, South America, and climbing mountains, jet ski'ing, going on jungle treks, meeting other "lost" travellers, eating exotic food, riding motorbikes through hills, and just gaining some life experience. Maybe even learn some social skills and have a complete change to life than working 45-50 hours a week over 7 days. But again, whenever I think about this, I picture myself having a GOAT time for 6 months but when I come back, I will have 0 savings, no job, and i'll have to restart life and i'll be in a much chittier situation than just accepting what I do now.


3)Or the final option is that I just continue to do what i'm doing now. Just accept that i'm living; not maximising, but have a much more solid future than anyone I know. Save 20,000 a year or 100K cash over 5 years. Put that down on a solid property. Or 50K over 2 properties. Rent them, use rent to pay mortgages and just flip them until I have an empire. Get an arranged marriage into an upper middle class family, and just accumulate wealth and inheritance to pass on to our children just like my family has been doing for generations. Maybe even retire at 35 and start a small business, and then buy a super car, travel the world, etc. But for 10 years (25-35) have a pretty dull life doing nothing exciting but from 35 onwards, have a truly GOAT life while everyone else who "enjoyed" and "maximised" their 20s is broke and has to work until 70.

At this point I'm committed to voluntary self-exile because I couldn't cut it here. Making $20K a year teaching English, with a free accommodation, is better than what I can do here since A) income too low B) I get screwed over by high rent / high automobile costs in Canada.

Thing is when you are poor then your social network is poor too. I have yet to meet a woman who makes more than me or is able to save more than me. Talking about these bishes got who undergraduates / masters degrees but make $15 at a non-profit something and spend all their money on Starbucks and Sephora.

What's the best way to deal with comments about living at home, being thought of as a loser, etc?

Do I just silently ignore it and retire at half the age they will retire and think that I won in the long run?

How much money does this require?

Be careful with travel, you may find that your problems follow you. I tried to overcome depression by saving up and travelling, didn't work and I ended up far worse off than I was back at home.

Travelling is so much better when life is going good and you're not trying to escape anything, it's just a cherry on the top.
