When it comes to cancun, two stories come to mind that heard from friends that have been there..

1. One night a couple were getting all frisky on the beach. two cops come by and see them. They go to the couple and hold them at gunpoint. Then take turns raping the girl. Shoot the guy, and then leave. When the families try to go to authorities. Nothing comes of it.

2. Guy and friends at day club partying. Guy has some kind of allergic reaction. Falls over, slowly dies because no medical help in the area. Cops come, take the body somewhere unknown. Family gets no access to the body or any answers for months.

Not saying ill never visit. Ive been to some questionable parts of the world. But id be careful and angus peppered.

Been going to Playa Del Carmen 1-2 times a year for the last 10 years. I love it there and have a handful of friends that live there. I've never felt unsafe in Playa. I've partied at the Blue Parrot many times. It's a shame this happened.

I'll be in Cancun at the end of Feb for a week.

Most relaxing vacation I've ever taken was to an all inclusive between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. That place was beautiful. I want to go back...

I was just there over Christmas and it felt safe AF to me... First time in Mexico too, was a little nervous at first but everyone there was so great. Cab drivers were super nice, love the Mexican people. Sayulita was fantastic. would definitely go again. I've heard Guadalajara isn't super safe, but that's not PV. You sound like you know a heck of a lot more than me about the goings' on down there... what makes PV not safe?
