I'm going to look into the VA loan, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to, or could afford a home in california.

So pretty much every Cali miscer rents or lives with their parents? Even making $10k/month your gross is $6k. That affords you quite a bit of discretionary income but not enough to buy a house. Sure you could buy a crap condo/apt in the valley for $300k. But even decent homes in nicer areas are $700k+.

Have you ever used MINT.com to visually see your finances? I'd recommend that op. You should look into downsizing, maybe moving to other part of the bay(outer bay) and get a roommate as well.

Yea, I like Mint, but my beef with it is it takes so long to update sometimes, it becomes irrelevant for any analysis involving the last month/few weeks. Also, sometimes it signs me out of my bank(s) without telling me, so my numbers are inaccurate if I don't double check.

lol'd a roommate though. Maybe if I'm dating said roommate.

I own a 3/2 house for $1100/month ...thats with mortgage insurance and homeowners insurance

it aint HB or Beverly HIlls or the bay but i prefer where I live to those.

Gotta be smart and dont get sucked into the CA lifestyle. OP if you are really making what you say you should have plenty of disposable.

What county do you live in, so I have an idea?

I don't need to live near a city, just kind of near an airport (company expecations).

SF miscer here... pay 3.1k in rent but have plenty of money left over to travel and do whatever I want with.

It's not that hard to manage money but some people do a terrible job at it

I live in san diego and dont make that much. i also have gone t great lengths to pay off my bills so the money I do have is all mine.

I will be quitting my job in a couple of weeks and dont plan on getting another one until summer is over. Plan of riding my motorcycle around the desert, hiking, camping, working out, working on my artwork. Once i run low if funds, i will get a job for another 8 months or so and then do it all over again. Might as well work during the winter months or what passes for winter here.

~150k

No car, used to own a car but it just sat there unused for months so it was a waste of money so I sold it. Have a 401k, its decent but my employer doesn't match so it's not particularly high, usually throw money into IRA before 401k for that reason

haha no that was when I first moved out here, I got a job at a tech company now. Living on savings was in no way sustainable aside from my 3 months of unemployment

Damn, 150k and a girl who moved out there with you, you made it boyo.

Not sure what I will get first, 150k or a girl to move in with me, lmfao.

Same boat here with my 401k, my employer's match is meh.

I'm at 110kish right now but I do make things harder for myself then they could be, with my insane car payment, but at the same time I see it as treating myself, and not as a burden.
