There's also a ******** group where people are often selling/trading. If you haven't already, also check out Carothers. I've been looking at their field knife. Very similar to Survive!. CPM-3V, micarta scales, etc.

EDC is a Gerber assisted opener and one of those key-shaped multitool knives. The Gerber isn't my favorite knife I own but the assisted open is buttery smooth, fast and perfect for everyday cutting tasks at work.

When I'm travelling or out in the woods I'm carrying my victorinox trailmaster. It has a nice long blade with a good liner lock and also some useful tools: Phillips screw driver, small flat screwdriver with can opener, large flat screwdriver that also locks with a liner lock (can be used as a little pry bar) and bottle opener, large wood saw (really effective!), reamer, toothpick and tweezers.
The fact it's an swiss army knife with the cross on it is also useful since no one would give you chit for carrying a swiss army knife (except for uk ****s maybe lol)

Brahs please aware me on carrying a knife, SRS. Do you keep it on you even if you go into a store, keep it in your car, or what?

I have always wanted to carry one, but don't know if that chit is going to be setting off alarms and so on, what do I need to be aware of SRS.

Usually have this handy little tool on me...



Everyone who carries a knife knows the infinite number of times it comes in handy. From cutting a box or letter open to cutting a length of cord, but I like the additional versatility of the seatbelt cutter and window punch. It's not expensive as knives go either.

at least in TX not a single person bats an eye. its clearly visible by the clip and part of the knife showing in my pocket. carry it in banks and literally everywhere. Only time i am concerned is entering a school. In 20 years of carrying it i was only asked to remove it once and that was at a the Saudi consulate or i guess the airport. Once you start carrying one you realize how useful it is and feel naked without it.

Based on your reply, I'm guessing it doesn't set off any sort of alarms when entering places of business? I always assumed that if I was to walk into, let's say, a mall, or a retail store, the detectors would be going off. Is that something you never had to deal with?

Honestly I don't think 99% of stores have any type of metal detectors. No it's never been an issue. If they had detection then 50% of guys would get stopped with a knife and 10% with a pistols. Texas baby

Damn, I feel like if I ever walked into a bank up here with a knife it would be a Defcon 5 situation and I'd get shot up. I need to look into it, but if any one from the NJ/NY area has insight, feel free to chime in.

It all depends on what state you live in. Even here in Pennsylvania, knife laws can be more complicated than firearm laws because they try to draw a line between tool and weapon based on physical characteristics that fall into so many grey areas.

The important thing to know here in PA is as long as it doesn't have two cutting edges, i.e. - a dagger, you are in the clear 99% of the time and it's just a tool. I went with a foldable blade without any type of opening assistance (spring-loaded) to further guarantee compliance.

At that point, it's a tool and as long as you don't live in one of our communist states it won't raise any eyebrows just walking through a store. You may be asked to leave it at the metal detector of a federal building and collect on your way out, although it's probably best just to leave it in the car. Also be cognizant of venues with strict weapons policies - best to leave it in the car because those types of places usually won't hold it for you. I once had to run all the way back out to my car at a hockey game because I forgot to take it off.

Other than that, carrying a knife is almost an old fashioned, but certainly not antiquated, level of preparedness. It's no different than people who keep a bottle opener on their key chain. I can't tell you how many times I'm the guy that has a knife when everyone is looking for one because they are trying to cut a piece of string or rope; or open a box or letter or just fish something out of a tight spot. They are very handy to have and are less intrusive than your keys - I sometimes forget I have it on.

Thinking of getting a TSA approved No knife multi tool like the Leatherman PS, and then having a REAL man's knife separately that I can remove for flights, amusement parks, etc.

Leatherman wave is my edc multi-tool. It has anything you need, I use the pliers a lot at work and the blade of course. King of multi's.

Same. Only place I won't have mine in my pocket is at school. Other than that it's clearly visible in my front pocket.
