Some muzz with an axe just ran through a train station in Germany chopping up all the unarmed krauts. Unknown yet if any "Refugees Welcome" signs were hurt.

I understand you have this need to carry a gun, you have grown up in a Country where having a gun is a part of life. I have not grown up in same environment, I have never felt the need to have a gun and my opinion of gun protection will be different to your opinion. In saying this, you can be prepared for something bad to happen and still end up with bad outcome, having a gun doesn't automatically mean you will be protected and your family, false sense of security.

Just because you have never had a home invasion, or robbery, or been assaulted, doesn't mean you never will. And hopefully you never have to experience that. Unfortunately though, there are thousands of people who do, daily. Better safe than really really sorry.

A gun is a force/strength equalizer. I like stacking the odds in my favor, as much as possible. Doesn't mean I am always going to win, but it does mean I always do my best.
This pretty much sums up why I have guns. Got my first one after my house got shot at and it took the cops 45 min to get to my house and there's a precinct about a 5 minute walk from me. Never putting my life in the hands of anybody else again.

At the same time this forum is full of people who fantasize and get wet over the thought of having the opportunity to shoot somebody. In reality, I'd bet most miscers will never have to use their guns and ain't never let off a round except at a range or when hunting. People watch too many movies thinking that John Wick bs is how it really goes down in real life. Nah fam, that's not how it goes. Most people are better off just getting a dog since they deter most home invaders anyway.

see that video you posted makes me want to own a gun on top of the reasons that i want one. But here in Australia we dont have mass shooting, home invasions, armed robbery with a handgun/rifle or just general crimes involving a gun. I think the gun related crimes in australia is really low % and we have probably the strictist gun laws in the world. The only reason America has such flexible gun laws is because it is the Second Ammendment and it is aimed at arming yourself against government and other people. Im sure if there was no Second Ammendment you guys wouldnt have such a high rate of homicide/gun violence/mass shootings. This is strictly just my opinion tho and i could be completely wrong since i havent done any research into it. If you have any material to back up your claims/arguements please post them! would love to read.

It's not that bad, in the Netherlands we had 41 gun related deaths in 2015 (most recent number I could find) on a population of 17 million. It works for us I guess, would be cool to own a gun though.

Of course having a gun doesn't automatically mean you will be protected.

A fire extinguisher doesn't automatically mean you'll be protected either.

Both are simply tools which can help in certain circumstances. Neither are a guarantee of anything. This should go without saying.

Agreed. I live in Australia as well, and the reason I don't need a gun is because no one else has one either. It's as simple as that.

It's extremely rare to hear about gun crimes here. And most of the time when you do, it's just gangs who only target each other.

Dont need one?

The only situation I can actually think of which would require a gun would be if someone else with a gun wanted to hurt me. Stats show that without reason its almost a 0% chance, so why live in fear all my life?

On the average day there is probably 1000+ things more likely to kill me, so being logical why would I ignore all the other thousands of risks and get a gun based on irrational fear?
Things are always as good or as bad as you think they're going to be

There is also not a minority gang problem that the US has, the gun violence involving non gang members is actually quite low. Its just places like chicago and LA/NYC that account for a great majority of the gun deaths. Anti gunners also routinely include the 21k suicides by gun as part of their argument

I totally understand the choice of most folks not to carry a gun based on the low risk of needing it, but just for objectivity's sake, someone else with a gun is certainly not the only threat which a gun could be used to defend against.

Maybe, maybe not. I really don't see it that way.

As a general rule, I think anything which doesn't causeimplicitharm to either others or the good functioning of society should be legal (though regulated, if necessary). So owning firearms - whether for hunting, defense, opening beers or whatever else you want to use them for - should be legal, though regulated.

Hell, if you have the money for an aircraft carrier and a stealth bomber, can pass all the requisite background checks and don't mind being on fifteen different government watchlists... have fun, bruh.

sucks for you guys

Keep my AK and RPK next to my bed

But in all seriousness

I travel alot for work and unfortunately don't live in the best neighborhood right now. Use to worry about my wife, but got her into target shooting and now she's a damn good shot with a pistol (and rifle). Know that if anything were to happen when I'm gone, she could hold her own.

A gun is a tool, a great equalizer where a 100lb women can go toe to toe with a 250lb man. It puts the weak on a level playing field with those that would like to cause harm. Just because you *******s havn't gotten yourselves in situations where you felt like a gun was needed, doesn't mean there aren't 1000's of other cases where a gun could have made a difference in someones life or well being.
