Does anyone else kind of think it's fcked up to spend $42k for a cat that would prolly die within 15 yrs? I mean animal abuse is inhumane, no doubt, but a $42k reward?
Why not just donate to St. Judes or a cancer charity to help kids survive up until their 70s/80s?

People often feel more empathy for animals because they are entirely at our mercy. It's the same with children. Causing harm to those who are most vulnerable is the biggest sin there is.

For example, would you feel more empathy for a grown, 30 year-old-man was that was killed or a defenseless old lady?

It doesn't mean you value other people less; it's natural to feel serious empathy for the most vulnerable, and animals are, without a doubt the most vulnerable of us all. They are entirely at our mercy.

No, there isn't. What he said is actually natural, as I outlined in my above post. You tend to feel more empathy for those who are most vulnerable. Children, cats, dogs, animals, elderly people, disabled etc. These people are completely defenseless. Causing harm to someone you know can't fight back is seriously evil, and this is why it elicits strong emotions from so many people.

Also, people can relate to animals more because they can actually be more trustworthy than humans. Animals like dogs love unconditionally. Doesn't matter what you look like, how rich you are, or what clothes you wear, a dog will be at your side no matter what. Humans.....not so much.

you seem to miss the point, it's not for the cat but it's important for society and other human lives that this future serial killer is found. That 40k could save a lot of lives and damage
