Wut... So you acknowledge that he's a lot better when on the meds and actually fuked without them. Yet you think he's an addict for using meds that help him live somewhat normally? How do you suggest he should "heal the wound" then? Seriously you sound kind of fuked to judge him like this. I've come to accept that some people are genuinely fuked, or for people that find the right meds to help them, that is awesome and I'm happy for them. Not everything is solved through exercise, diet and sleep for goodness sake.

And of course it's an option. He can get an appointment on Monday morning.

Edit: Also please don't underestimate physical exercise as a therapy for depression. Even 5 minutes of intense exercise bike can lift mood tremendously.
Well people have been telling him that forever too. He just ignores any practical advice, I'm just throwing chit at the wall to see what sticks. And if you'd read my posts you'd see that I said that physical exercise is also helpful, but he said he's tried that and it wasn't enough. It can improve your mood but real depression goes way beyond just a bad mood.

If you're really down in the ditches you need something more substantial. But sure, anything that improves his situation is obviously gonna be helpful, not trying to shoot the idea down. If he really wants to get better he should attack this thing from every possible direction but I'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen.

TL;DR

- OP you're not alone
- Seek professional help srs
- Don't rely on drugs 100%
Yeah that's what I said. You use the drugs as a springboard to change your living situation for the better so that you can then ditch the medication when you're in a healthier place. That's how it's supposed to be used, the thing is doctors don't communicate this so people just end up taking them for life. It's tragic but as we can clearly see from OP some people don't have the grit to make a change on their own. In that case it's better than nothing.

Of course there are also the people who are chronically depressed and want to kill themselves but are so apathetic they don't have the motivation to go through with it. Then they go on anti-depressants which doesn't give them back the will to live, but does give them just enough initiative to go through with it so they end up killing themselves once they start medicating. Pretty ironic, more common than one might suspect too. So yeah, obviously should be a last resort
Without the internet i feel like a small rock on the mountain.

I don't really want my posts on the internet tbh ... I'm just legit addicted to posting ... people become addicted to the internet look it up

We have been friends for decades, and sure to you I sound judgemental and phucked. Neg me if you want, idgaf. He and I had conversations about this all the time. He knows when he needs someone to talk to, I am there 24/7. Sometimes they just need someone to listen and vent, I keep my mouth shut when he needs that. He was the one who said that to me, not me. "I need meds because I feel normal with them, without them I feel suicidal." I am not gonna go into detail about his personal life, every case is different. OP has his own unique problems, we don't know the root cause of it. That's why he needs professional assistance, not misc.

No - you said people have been telling him to see a therapist forever. That's not the same thing as seeing a GP.

It's unlikely someone will seek out a therapist independently in the UK. That would probably mean private therapist etc and you'd just think to yourself 'fuk that, can't be bothered'.

But if you see a GP, they will make a decision on whether or not to refer you to mental health specialists and they will in turn decide on what therapy you may/may not need (CBT/Counselling). The GP may also prescribe antidepressants and although the internet wears a tin-foil hat about those, if you go to the websites where people leave reviews about such meds, you will see that a LOT of people benefit from them. Not all, but a LOT.

All OP has to do is phone his GP on monday.

Yeah that's what I said but other people told him to see a doctor before that. A few people ITT said to get his bloods done, he's talked about doctors visits before too. I even gave him an alternative to going to the GP because he said they'd dismissed him in the past and I awared him on private blood tests you can have run.

And considering how I already made the case for antidepressants in certain scenarios ITT, and as dismissive as you are about the therapies I suggested that have a much better track record than antidepressants with way less risks and downsides, it's pretty ironic you're talking about tinfoil hats.

I'm not saying he shouldn't call his GP. He should, but he wont. I tried to give him other options because eventually maybe he'll realize that he's shot down a hundred different solutions to get out of the pit he's dug for himself and see that the problem isn't the world around him, it's him. But by now I doubt it, I'm beating a dead horse and so are you. Lots of people have stretched out their hands ITT but he's not interested in replying to anything other than people who will validate his feelings of misery and self-pity.

So it goes

Your entire day is framed by what you do in the first 20 minutes. Wake up at 5. Stay away from phone. Listen to some tony robbins. Some music that pumps you up. Pray read walk jog lift whatever you know makes you your best.

Every single emotion is controllable and you can determine what that emotiin means to you and how you react.
Takes a lot of work but it's so worth it

They also gave me two leaflets, one titled "stress and anxiety" and the other "Depression" with your generic cookiecutter advice like "don't kill yourself lol"

Proof wit ya name so I can put to bed the rumour that I'm not fcking trying, got stacks of letters of me trying dated 2014-2017 and having my appointments cancelled and moved too if you want pictures of those (I'd have to censor them)

To be fair it's not you that's giving me a hard time Busta mate, but you I'm quoting so...

I liked the part where you mentioned what's wrong.
There and back again twice, a deep red's tale.

Go the fuk back. Let it all out and burst into tears in front of them if you feel like it.

They will get the message.

Go back bro. Go back next week.
