Anyways, this all comes down to western civilization's infatuation with "stuff". Stuff that has little to no effect on your day to day life. Stuff that loses nearly all of it's excitement value after 3 weeks of ownership. I don't know what it is about phones in particular but for the longest time people legit HAD TO HAVE the latest and greatest Galaxy/iphone. Every two years like clockwork, 80% of my immediate social circle is talking about their contract nearly being up and being excited for an upgrade.

It's like... you all DO realize phones are little different than laptops and TVs as far as practicality is concerned right? Like do you go out and buy a new giant $1500 flat screen every two years??? probably not. Maybe now that cell phones are starting to cost as much as TVs and laptops, perhaps people will hang on to them a bit longer. No one to blame but yourselves.

About 40 now, last job about 75. 15k in 401k, 15k in savings 50k in student loans. Own a home, selling soon. Will put about 110k in the bank. Don't have a long term plan with this money yet.

If I did mind, how would that be a problem? We don't all work in a world where there's a chart that dictates our income. Once you get out of the service you may find not everybody just volunteers their entire financial situation to a stranger.
