This is why this is such a big deal, because you just don't now when you're going to get fawked.

You brother might be the perfect candidate to get a new SSN. If I were you I would let him know he has this option
So you have to freeze with 3 agencies? It's like $30 right

yes all 3, but the price depends on what state you are in. Some can be free and others you have to pay.

Equifax is doing it for free and if you sign up with Transunion it is free. I only had to pay for Experian

Also, I recommend getting Identity Theft insurance (with Zander)

Not a bad idea man. You can always temporarily lift it too. Just whoever is pulling your credit report ask what company is doing it and then call them and put a temporary lift on it.

when it comes to your identity and credit being paranoid is a good thing!

- imagine if North Korea were to buy up all our info and have state sponsored hack farms that would fawk hundreds/thousands of us every week. It would be a big thing, every Friday we would find out who got fawked or not. We would prob tuen it into a drinking holiyday

That happens all the time man. Most CIO and CSO have no tech background. legit blows my mind.

- Remember the Target hack, yep their Chief Information Officer had no IT background.

Fukin Experian is making me send written documentation to freeze anything with them including a check for 10.70 (PA brah). Wtf at jumping thru these hoops to just freeze my account? Tried both phone and online? God this pisses me off

For Experian I was able to pay over the phone.

I heard some chit about mailing it in so I hung up and called again and went through the process again (yes annoying as **** and was pissed af) but then it let me pay over the phone.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, that was the only one that listed off ALL THE FCKN states over the phone. Yeah that's the annoying one brah. I am in Michigan though, I'd try again and see but maybe it's different for PA.

Looks like Equifax may have dropped the fee for a while?https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/12/y...ee-waiver.html
Also, there's another fee to unfreeze!!

There's a bill to try make it free:

Wondering if i should just wait a bit to do experian/transunion? I don't have time to collect a copy of a recent Bill/photocopy my fkn drivers license etc etc being on the road for work. Jesus H i can't believe they even make us jump thru all this schit and on top of it all have to pay for it like the article says.

Also do they charge me to temporarily unfreeze it for credit checks too?

Most of the info I know about this is, is through family members that are bankers and Google of course.

- But credit freeze I'm 100% sure is just from keeping people from looking up your info. Your credit can still take a go down or up if you pay a bill or not, just like normal.

Hope that bill goes through, but I'm still waiting for them to come out a say, yes EVERYONE got fawked!

- This always happens with hacks like this. The initial numbers they put out is not even close to the truth and sometimes they never fully disclose how bad it really is

Yes they will charge you a fee. But you shouldn't really wait. freezing just one is pointless, you have to get all 3 man. Does suck but just think how much worse it's going to be if they go in raw on you

Trans Union offers some free 'True Identity' program that allows you to freeze/unfreeze with a swipe of your finger with an app? wonder if this would be better than paying for a 'freeze'? seems to do the same thing but according to them it's free?

Edit: Fuking experian charged me the 10.70 to my CC and didn't do anything? after clicking it went to another page telling me to mail schit? wtf is this BS.

I literally have been waiting for this to happen for several years. It was only a matter of time before one of the major credit bureaus got hacked

Brb let's take everyone's most sensitive financial information and store it all in one spot. Tehe it's safe here
they knew it was happening and profited from it

in a perfect world there would be justice for such crimes, but we all know who holds the marionette strings for the govt

Haven't heard about 'True Identity' but will look into it. If they charged you already you might be in some type of gray area, I would send the info asap.

You're prob not going to like this but coming from a family of bankers, I have to throw my 2 cents in.

- If they did know, it would have been insider trading, and the SEC will find out, eventually.... hopefully. hope SEC will look into it.

- Them sell their stock before the news came out does look suspicious, but you have to ask yourself why such a small amount. There's no way they play it off as lets trade just a little and no one will notice. These guys know how things work and they being called out on it, would have been expected.

But you could be right, and they knew about. If so, they deserve to rot somewhere because they give the other honest bankers a bad name (inb4 lol at honest bankers)
