also people are fake as fuk

I cringe when people say my "work friend"

no one is a true friend at work.. they talk about you to others and they'd go behind your back in a second if it meant advancing their career

my only issue with office jobs is the lack of calories you burn from sitting all day is hard to compensate for.

been at my current office for 2 years. before coming here I was serving at an outdoor restaurant, sweating/moving all day. got super lean/cut.

get this job. sitting 8 hours/day x 2 years = put on 20 pounds. on top of that my back isn't doing so hot from being a tall brah sitting (compresing) spine all day. a bunch of other people in my office deal with the same back troubles. i get up and walk for 15 mins 2x/day but it isnt enough.

all kidding aside, it depends on where you work at. I work at a small company. 50-60 people. Many of us are friends at work and outside of work.

I suspect it's the same way for most people which is why most people tend to be depressed, or fat, or unproductive.

I already feel drained after an 8 hour shift at a job where there's zero stress or difficulty and all I have to worry about is boredom. And that's with doing everything people tell you to do when you complain you're tired... Clean eating, drinking a fukton of veggies via my juicer everyday, regular lifting and cardio, taking every vitamin or adaptogen I can think of, daily meditation to lower stress, getting lots of sleep. The only way I've been able to counter this is by abusing stims that I can't talk about on Misc.

I'd probably prefer it if I had 3 or 4 days with really long shifts and then extra days off because free time after a shift barely counts for me because my brain becomes such a potato.
All of this! Eating healthy and working work is the only way to counter the office environment. I rather work 4 days and have 3 days off.

Being a truck driver is 10x worse, imagine sitting for 12 hours were you literally can't even stop and walk or talk to anyone for 12 hours straight. I would take an office job anyday.

My assistant is an introvert. Actually works well for me because I really dont like to manage people and she is fairly self-sufficient. Comes daily, does her job, not much chit chatting.

honestly having worked at numerous types of jobs (manual labour, customer service, restaurants, call centres, sales, courier), can confirm that office jobs are GOAT (obviously depends on your company policies/etiquette, culture and type of work you do).

brb no 12-14 hour work shifts of manual labour in some hot factory or outside in the cold doing construction
brb don't have to worry about bitchy customers that just make your life fuking hell and make you wanna KYS
brb no washing dirty ass dishes, being a waiter, no pressure to get things done quickly
brb not having to meet certain quotas and having an actual salary and not being commissions based

sounds like a whole bunch of tradie cope.

office jobs are LDAR but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I can walk and stretch my legs whenever I want, I can talk to people whenever I want, generally am left alone most of the time, free food in the kitchen, meetings that kill a lot of time, can go on the misc like I'm doing right now (biggest dealbreaker lul), can take my lunch whenever, not under any sort of pressure most of the time, can leave a bit early if I'm done my work, monthly restaurant meals, etc.

what other jobs affords you all of these? who gives AF if it's boring. When you're home at least you aren't physically beat up and you can do whatever you want for fun. Better than being chronically tired and stressed all the time.

Only downside is that it is boring (lets be honest though there are many worse jobs that are boring too) and that sitting 8 hours a day in front of a screen isn't that healthy (but in construction jobs you can easily hurt yourself too, or any manual labour). Not gonna lie though back pain is a bitch and most people will develop it working in an office.

I srsly don't see all the hate, unless your company office is super strict and anal about chit.

If you believe you have tried everything and nothing works and that you don't even need to ask for advice anymore, then guess what? You will never improve beyond your current station.

You sound like you have already given up and checked out. Good luck with your life bro, hope you land on your feet even though you have a really chitty attitude.
Willpower depletion actually is a legitimate thing. I've seen research that having the right attitude has been shown to help mitigate that to an extent, but it still exists. Sleep deprivation, low blood sugar, stress... All of these, among other things, impact it. It can be trained like a muscle, but it's a gradual process. Some high achiever types are said to wear the same outfit everyday, if only because they want to minimize the amount of choices they make in a day, so that they have more cognitive resources to devote to bigger and more important choices.

Not saying that as an excuse. I'm certainly still seeking solutions because what choice do I really have? I'm always trying to find ways to improve my situation and always open to new possibilities, but that doesn't mean I can't have my grievances in the meantime.

I do think that even though certain situations might suck and it's not your fault, it's still your responsibility to deal with it. It's my responsibility to figure out a way to handle my energy levels just as it's the responsibility of everyone in this thread to improve their situation if they're unhappy with it. Taking complete responsibility for every aspect of your life will always get you further than rational defeatism, but you can still do that while acknowledging that maybe the way we're doing things isn't natural or ideal and striving to find the truth. It's like trying to find the line between obese people who blame everything on genetics versus lifters who claim that genetics don't matter at all... The answer is somewhere in between. At some point, we've got to acknowledge that we're only human and we have limitations.

I work in a plant, my desk is in the office portion however I'm free at will to get up anytime, plus my job (mfg engineering) I have days where at my desk 90% of the day, and others like 5% of the day. Generally a good 50/50 mix. Definitely don't mind it at all!

Maybe if you work for corporate OP. I work for a small business owner, I get my own office with a window view on the 7th floor. Even have my own secretary. I love my job, srs. Going back to school to learn accounting and payroll so I can progress even further.

If I had a cubicle with no windows and got paid min wage, then yeah it's time to LDAR but let's not bundle all office experiences together

Never seen more cope.

AUTONOMYis what we should all strive for boys.

I just quit my 9-5 corporate job today. I don't have my next move figured out yet, which many might say is foolish, but I have a fat commission check coming in on Friday (in addition to my regular paycheck) so that will hold me off a while, and I quite literally cannot endure the soul sucking rat race anymore. It's slowly but surely destroying my wellbeing. Thinking I'll take 1-2 weeks of time off to myself to reevaluate everything and go from there. If I still don't have it figured out then, I'll at least have a side hustle I'm working towards by that time and I can fall back on another corporate job temporarily to make ends meet.

I give no ****s about money. I make 26K a year and have everything i want. No need to put in extra work for something i don't care about. Could win the lottery right now and would be bored of my new house and boat within a few months
