As for benching, there is NEVER a reason for 99% of the population to put flippin clamps on while your bench pressing. Clamps are only for squats, heavy deads and olympic lifts.

Damn that's a tragedy.
Always get a spotter fellas.

Not sure how people die from bench.
Don't do 1 rep max attempts without a spotter.
Don't have the clips on so you can just tilt the barbell and the weights fall off.
Don't use suicide grip.
The only way you can end up getting stuck is if you think you have 1 more rep in you, but then you don't.
But even then you can still let the weight go down controlled on your chest and then tilt it to the side.
In worst case scenario, you roll it off your stomach, which should easily be doable unless you're benching 400 lbs.
But you should know better to bench with a spotter if you go real heavy.

I wouldn't expect to survive that, as it only takes five pounds per square inch to crush your trachea.98kg can kill you? wot?
I haven't done the math, but I'm 100% sure that the instant a 216 pound barbell makes contact with your neck after falling from 3 feet the pressure is far greater than 5lbs/sq. inch.

The kid did not look capable of benching that much for reps . Was definitely over his head in the first place .
Terrible mistake on his part . Unfortunately it was his last

People don’t die benching when doing things safely... (of course there’s probably been freak accidents, but you know what I mean).

Of course if you include natural selection, then there's a ton of reasons.
Getting on hillary clinton's bad side is another reason.

This is also why I never bench with the lock/collar on, worst case if I can't finish the press I just tilt to one side to slide the plates off.

Doesn't seem like much but dropping a 5lb dumbbell on your throat could crush your wind pipe.
Also if he was pinned under it it was probably a smith machine, if it was a bench press it would have just tilted to one side and let him out.

One time I was listening to a Tim Tebow video back in like 2013 or some chit.
Anyways decided I could get 225 x 12, but didn’t. Had to roll of shame that **** off my chest in an empty gym. It kinda hurt rolling it down, I should have just dumped the weight but I kept thinking the bar would bring wreck lol

I can't imagine what it would feel like being pinned under heavy weight and not being able to yell out for help and struggling to breath.
What a terrible way to go out.

How does that 15 year old bench 98 kg when my record is only 100 kg once?
Either ego lifting, half repping or strong af.

Been pinned before on my home bench. Wasn't a lot of weight but wanted to pump out a few more reps. Luckily, I didn't use the clips and was able to slide the plates off of one side. Lived by myself so there would have been no help.
