Love the show up until Andy and Erin ruined it. The show really hit rock bottom when Michael left. But like Season 1-5 are Goat.

I'm on Season 3 right now
I would definitely recommend it, but season 1 has a lot of dry humor... like a ton. It gets more lighthearted after that though, so just be patient.
Also...

Creed is the best character

Basically what everyone else has said. Wife and i have watched it beginning to end at least 5 times l. After that we tend to restart after Michael leaves because Andy seems like a poor mans Michael Scott and the Pam/Jim stuff gets a bit real.
Great character development, plenty of different arcs to follow and lots of attention to detail in terms of bringing up content from previous episodes and hiding it in the background. The clown painting from the house being a great example.

It's a show based on UK snobbery and was about "idiots" in the office and how the writer was better than them.
The first season or so of the US one had a boring quality as everyone was supposed to be stiff and weird. However, after that it turned into a very hilarious and absurd show, less about self-important nobodies and more about wacky humor.

Season 1 is hit or miss with most people (it was personally too painful for me), but after that, until Carell left it is pretty much the GOAT run for a comedy. Only comparable might be Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Some people don't like dry humor though, it takes a little bit of effort to get the joke.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand The Office. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the paper business most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Micheal’s comedic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Steve Martin, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike The office truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Micheals existencial catchphrase "That’s what she said," which itself is a cryptic reference to sex. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Steve Carrell’s genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Dunder Mifflin tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
