Except it's not $599, because you're going to change all of the furniture with the same furniture in my link eventually.

I mean, if your M&P is going to sit in your closet/safe and never get used, then it doesn't make any difference. If you're ever going to compete with it or take classes with it, you'll want the Colt.

I don't think an AR15 should be sold to anyone. I think that it should be sold to any citizen over the age of 18 who isn't a violent criminal or insane.

Look im not saying a man should not have a gun 2 defend himself but this is not about self defense. The ar 15 is about a hobby n about entertainment. Mma is my hobby and entertainment but last time i checked i dont have to give it up cuz it doesnt result in mass number of people being killed including children. At the very least ar 15s need heavy regulation. Theres something seriously wrong when adopting a child is harder to do than buying this weapon of warfare. Believe i wouldnt say anything in fact id go out to the range and have some fun with an ar 15 if people werent dying cuz of this.

LOL, the AR 15 is far and away the best gun for defending yourself, and it's not even close.

Adopting a child should be more difficult than buying a common rifle. You're taking responsibility for the welfare of another human being. Duh.

That's a terrible gun. Eating all the recoil with your hand because your firearm can't be shouldered? LOL.

Look, it's a fun way to get around the NFA, but ultimately it's a toy. Every SWAT team in the country uses an AR, because it's the best gun. Not even a debate, and the only reason to use a shotgun is if you can't afford a rifle.

I was kind of hoping when I called it the "destroyer of dreams" that it would be obvious I was totally joking. I goofed.

As far as actual self defense indoors, my concern about AR-15 is shattering ear drums. Why not just stick with a pistol, ideally silenced?

I want one and even thought of putting one together but said **** that when I watched youtube videos. Probably pick up a M&P Sport 2 and add a few things to it. Take it to the range a few times a month but will be used to protect the family along with my sig P320. I would like to know what red dots many of you that a rocking with that don't cost $400+. I would only spend $200 in a red dot. I regret putting so much money into my laser/flash combo for my P320.

If you can silence a pistol, you can silence an AR. You're gonna have a bad day for your hearing either way. This is one of the reasons to use a standard FH instead of a brake on an HD AR, btw.

But the sound difference between a silenced 9mm and silenced AR-15 is insane.

So's the difference in their effectiveness in a gunfight.

The main difference between a "good" AR and a "bad" AR is in the specs for the barrel and the Bolt Carrier Group. How well the machining is done, which materials are used.

It's the difference between cubic zirconia and diamonds. They both look the same, but if you need something to perform like a diamond and you use a cubic zirconia you're going to be SOL.

How well the magwell is machined so that the mags drop free. How well your BCG was machined, what tests it underwent, what quality control. Things that determine whether or not your gun feeds reliably and ejects spent brass reliably.

How good your barrel is will determine how accurate your rifle is. How tight of a group you can shoot, what volume of fire you can put down the barrel and maintain accuracy.

Totally agree, I just see it as a cost/risk-benefit analysis. That is, it seems quite unlikely that an AR is going to be necessary or even provide any major advantage in the vast majority of home invasions. As such, there is a significantly larger risk of serious auditory damage without much incremental improvement to my own safety.

Just personal preference - no right or wrong route, I don't think, as competency in handling a [suitable] firearm will be far more important than the firearm being used.

If there's only one guy breaking in, sure. Huge advantage if they have a friend.

Since I'm not carrying it around with me, I lose the only advantage to be had from a handgun, which is portability.

How well the magwell is machined so that the mags drop free. How well your BCG was machined, what tests it underwent, what quality control. Things that determine whether or not your gun feeds reliably and ejects spent brass reliably.

How good your barrel is will determine how accurate your rifle is. How tight of a group you can shoot, what volume of fire you can put down the barrel and maintain accuracy.
so the one you linked above is among the best, or is it just the best in that price range?

You can spend thousands on an AR15. Sadly, you missed out on probably the best gun deal I've ever seen about 2-4 months ago. It's a quality piece and at a better price than was available before ~2017.

The main difference between that Colt and a more expensive AR15 is usually free floating the barrel, improving the trigger, and then taking off weight. Making these rifles lightweight starts getting very expensive.

If you're interested in building one, you can get a better rifle for a similar cost, but you'll be doing things like installing your barrel on your upper which requires viceblocks and what not.
