Pretty much all of my hobbies involve silly amounts of money.

Tech, Computers, guitar, high end audio and I'm not satisfied unless I have the best gear/take each hobby to autist levels of mastery/knowledge.

Is this actually true? I always liked archery and wanted to get into it. I'm assuming you must be pretty high-level to consider your stuff "obsolete"? Should be fine for a casual to have the same gear for years?

I would say video games. Not really what I would consider a hobby though... I found it to be more of a toxic addiction.

I don't really have hobbies I regretted. I have dozens of things I regretted NOT learning though.

All interesting locations in/around London (which you have to be because that's where the industry is) you need permits to shoot at, security people never believe your shoot in non-commercial if though it's true (but you have a big camera!)

I'm burned out on it but still can't stop myself developing my ideas. Who knows if I'll ever actually shoot them.
I did a bit of portrait type work and got bored/frustrated by it pretty quickly. Was just dealing with instagram girls so not really making much money and they were super flaky. Didnt have as much creative freedom (wasnt willing to pay models). I just stick with landscapes and cityscapes where everything I do is what I want to do.

gaming would be a regret had the industry not been blowing up now. since it is now "cool" to like eSports, it's no longer a big deal

if you're actually in tune with the gaming scene, it's actually mindblowing to see the fuks that work at gaming companies with no passion for gaming at all. you'll see why most games are just heaps of ****.

Fish aquarium, woodworking, drums, smoking meats. All become very expensive somehow. They are each rewarding however I wish I did just one. I'm the jack of all trades, master of none.

RC cars. Expensive as fuk. Spent 2k in a couple months on car, gas, upgrades, parts, etc... well radio got fukd up or something for a split sec and car hit a light post concrete base at like 100mph. 2k in little pieces.

My fkn yard. Went from a chore, to a hobby, to an obsession which has made it a uggggge chore.

soil tests
fert calanders and calculations
weed concentrates
pre emergents
blade sharpening
edging
watering schedules
killing undesirable grass and reseeding with elite cultivars
mowing patterns

Used to throw Scotts on it a few times a year and mow it as little as possible and it was still one of the better lawns on the block. Now it looks like chit to me if I go over 5 days between mows eventhough it looks great to everyone else. That lawn dysmorphia of peace

Waste of time unless you're making hundreds of thousands to millions playing competitively

Many of these "pro" gamers think they're somebody, but what the hell are you going to do after that if you're not making a fortune? Eventually you have to "retire" and live a normal life, but then you already wasted 10+ years doing nothing.

I still play games, but I don't take them seriously at all anymore, like I don't even care.

Growing up I had neighbors that would spend every waking minute they weren't at work tending to this mound they had landscaped quite nicely. After I moved out, I found out they divorced. My parents said it was because there was nothing else they could possibly do to the damn mound.

Skateboarding for me too. I've skateboarded for more than 15 years. Got a ****ty knee and ruined ankle and I barely even enjoy it anymore. I just do it now because if I quit I'd feel like I wasted my life.

I wouldn’t say I never wish I got into it but guitar to a certain extent. Music is huge stress reliever for me and a regular part of my life but the when your hobby is creating and playing music particularly electric guitar there’s a lot of things that you don’t know as a beginner.

I spent over $2000 on private lessons over the course of a year because I was serious at learning the instrument after all these years. Then there’s guitars themselves which are expensive if you’re chasing your dream guitar. Then the potential thousands spent on a quality amplifier recording set-up. Gear adds up quick with guitar. It’s an expensive but very rewarding hobby if you’re willing to put in the time to practice and work up your chops and musicality.
No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

Can you explain? I'm an archer myself and I have the same gear for 2 years now and will last me many years more. Why do you have to buy a new one every year, specially one so expensive, are you competing or just obsessed with having the latest trend?

Alot of masturbating gamers in here, feels like home nomsayin?

Gaming when you have actual free time, nothing wrong with that, gaming instead of going to a party or studying for a test, I can see being an issue. I have great memories of large Halo LAN connection game nights, then discovering online multiplayer for the first time in college, alot of fun. I could say I regret it, and that my grades would have been better, but that's a lie, would've found something else to do.

Been thinking about picking up wood carving, start with chip carving maybe, and then 2D carving, maybe eventually 3D but doubtful, want to find a niche area to get good at. Like this fellerhttp://woodenwhaleco.com/aboutWife bought a whale of his, pretty clever, real simple. Can't figure another good carving that is as streamlined as a whale other than another fuking fish. Anyways will probably start by carving these stock pine round wood tops at home depot that fit over stoneware crocks perfectly, wife has a hundred of them, so plenty of uses once carved, something like Koi fish on the top, the green man designs, random **** like that until I get better.

Also do photography and axe restoration, both pretty fun and I don't really regret either, you need hobbies, always negatives to them sometimes.

Probably magic the gathering. I spent so much money travelling to tournaments, buying cards, tournament fees. I eventually sold my entire collection/decks but i still feel im in the red overall on it. I made back about 6-7k selling it too.
