This may have been asked already, but are you stuck in SF for the entire 8 days or will you have a rental car or your own car?

If you can travel a little ways, go down to Santa Cruz, Carmel, and/or Monterey.

Monterey Bay Aquarium is pretty cool. It's expensive, IMO though.

Carmel - I love driving through 17 mile drive. Beautiful drive.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It's really been cleaned up the last couple of years.

The food in SF is top notch. Lots of places to eat and drink have already been suggested.

You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Almost everything I would have said is covered above so not going to repeat.

Couple of gems from my last visit:

1) Hopwater distribution - amazing beers and small plates without going in dry on your wallet. One of my favourite places there

2) Sweet Maple - if you're up for brunch, they have a brown sugar bacon that will make you hnnnngggghhhhh

3) Rue Lepic - French restaurant, little pricey but food was great (date spot to go with your boyfriend)

That was supposed to read State Bird Provisions*. Also "That's It" in the mission has a pretty good cubana. It was on one of those food network shows, can't remember, but it's great and the woman who works behind the counter is a sweetheart. Also second El Farolito. There are a few other burrito spots on 24th street, can't really go wrong with any of them.

Here is my short list.
1. Muir Woods, Giant Redwoods, and Sausalito Half-Day Trip
2. Lombard St., it is wild
3. At+T park, some say the best ballpark in the USA( baseball people say this)
4. Alcatraz, just once to say you have done it.
5. At least 1 winery tour, free samples
6. hop on/off bus(done it in most cities)a day pass gets you all over the city without driving and you cover more ground.

Have a blast! I am jealous, Go Giants......

if you're doing alcatraz then bring some disposable disinfectant wipes to clean the headphones they give you for the self-guided audio tour.

Get a car and spend a day or two in Napa Valley especially if you're into wine at all

Been many times. My wife and I love going

Look online, I believe you need to buy your tickets for Alcatraz at least a couple of days, maybe even a week before.

#3 - I'm a Dodger's fan and have to agree that it is a beautiful park with a lots of food and bars around it. Was just there for the last Dodgers v. Giants double header. I really enjoy being able to walk to the park and being able to stop at 3-4 bars on your way there. The area is starting to look/feel like Wrigleyville (another awesome area/park).
