She's a stripper. OP , I wouldn't put so much stock in her ability to guess what a man does for a living based on feeling his arm?

Yes that's how strip clubs work. It wasn't how you imagine though. It was awhile into the conversation and she turned non-complimenty awhile ago. Regardless of her intentions, even if she confused me for a billionaire and approached me with the intent of giving a compliment, the point here is it got me to wondering about how buff-ish older guys are perceived in general because it does make sense and I do see some of them as probable tradies myself. The rest of what I wrote didn't come out of the stripper. Leave it up to the misc to concentrate on the word stripper though.

Working out regularly keeps me from feeling like an old sack of crap. Not really concerned with aesthetics so much except to not turn into a fat glob for my wife to have to look at.

Look at it this way.. Do you really want to watch your SO go to complete chit right before your eyes in her late 30s?

No sir. Step it up.

Anyway, starting to think that past 35, the more muscle you have the worse you look. Past this age, you are more attractive if you project mental confidence, and look like a man busy with a career/business chit. If you are buff, you look like you have time on your hands and you are quite possibly a tradie. Being lean or just in shape for health is good because it doesn't require as much work as building muscle and looks like you take care of yourself.

Story time:

- Buddy was celebrating successful surgery. Went to a strip club, always a good laugh, plus tiddies.

- Got to talking to a stripper. Touching my arm, she goes: so why are you so strong? Are you in construction or something?

- My brah almost lost his chit laughing but that got me to thinking. I'm sitting there wearing fine clothes, expensive watch and the sloot thinks I must be working construction if I look strong at my age.

Conclusion:

Past 35, your concern should be your career so looking strong has likely something to do with your career. As in, it might require it. As in, you must lift chit for a living.

Question:

1) How do you young'ns see older buff guys outside the gym?

2) Fellow old farts, what have you noticed?

EDIT: Mind blown how many people can't read on the misc. The question here is not 'should I stop lifting and become a fat slob'. Question is does being lean and in shape look better as you age than being buff (building more muscle).
there's a couple older ppl at my gym (50s) and I strive to be like them physically at that age. Dont care if they work at McDonald's, not everyone is worried about being ceo10k/a day.

lol come on man....if you are a ripped jacked guy making six + figures with a decent normal personality you are on celeb mode in this country. In B4 the incels claiming they are 6'5" making a mil and look like brad pitt but don't get laid. There is no situation where being muscular and in great shape doesn't help. Anyone else copes. All girls love it don't care what they say.

Post 35 just not devolving into a hideous pile already puts you ahead of most.

However, looking like the gym and "muh gains" is your #1 priority will put you squarely in insecure man-child wanker territory.

That said there's a massive gap between these 2 extremes. Somewhere in the middle where you look like you take care of yourself and have your ish together is the sweet spot imo.

A close friend of mine is in his late 40s and looks great for his age. Very active. I believe the discipline he uses to stay in shape translates very well to his career success.

Your priorities as you get older should change TBH and be less about 'gainz' but maintaining overall health.

Having a bit of muscle is a big advantage in your 30s. I think a lot of guys my age are delusional though, I see them wearing underarmour compression chit and they have a 40inch waist and fatceps. If you can pull off a bit of muscle without looking like a tryhard it's good.

Women love muscles, they all do. When you're both lying there naked, they love rubbing on your pecs and arms and seeing powerful glutes for thrusting. It literally makes women hnnnng.

Does it fuk with your sleep?

It does for me. That's when I go back to maintenance mode

I'm trying a much slower, almost recomp, approach now and its a lot more bearable. Still well over 3k cals and approaching 10% BF at nearly 240lbs

When I wait till the last minute and have to go full rah-tard on the lack of carbs it fks with my sleep... like exhausted to the point I just cant get comfortable (if that makes any sense at all). But when I actually plan ahead and allow myself to carb cycle properly even when I calipered at my lowest BF% (6%) I slept fine... I was weak AF... but I looked good. lol
