Salary sounds about right. PE teacher + volleyboal coach means after school practice everday + week end trip, tournament, summer prep and summer tournament.

They spend easily 80 hours at school.

How old was the teenager?

It's against the rules, the law and she shouldn't have done it.

However, how does the moral standard change with different countries? Isn't the age of consent in England 16?

If this happened in England, would it still be as appalling to the British miscers? The only problem with the behaviour would be the lack of professionalism and how she cheated on her husband; and not the act itself, if it happened in England at least.

Knew it was California when I saw the salary. They get by with some crazy high teacher salaries that go way beyond the actual district salary guidelines. Not sure how that works tbh.

Here is the deal on the pay. For elementary and high school teachers, the subject they teach has nothing to do with their pay, within their district. Pay varies district to district because each contract is negotiated separately.

Coaches get stipends for the season and it isnt much when they do put in 80hrs a week in season. They do not get paid according to the time they put in.

Their pay is defined by contracts and they do not go beyond "district guidelines".

They are paid based on the following:
Years of service: teacher who are in the six figure range have 20 years of service or more. You don't start at six figures. It takes a career to get there.

Education: six figure teachers have advanced degrees. Mostly a masters. Education "moves them over" on the pay structure. Someone with a masters is going to make more than one with a bachelors even with the same years of service. Plus you get a bonus for the degree you earned.Teachers who dont advance their education are leaving money on the table.

Extra service hours: This is usually negotiated between a teacher and principal. It is paid out of the school's budget, not the district's. It is for special projects and would be for maybe 30 hours or so. This has potential to be abused.

Stipends: this is what coaches, heads of departments and club advisors get. A varsity coach might get $4000 or so for a season. JV $2500. This varies district to district. Heads of departments and club advisors $2500. In my opinion, it isn't a lot considering the hours they put in. They do it because they love it.

Summer school: depends on district, maybe $3-5000 per summer

So here is a salary breakdown example:

Salary: $125000
Masters bonus: $500
Club advisor: $2500
50 xtra service hours: $4350
Total: $132350

Souce: married to a six figure teacher with six figure teacher friends. All with 20+ years of service.

Moral: don't bang the kids

As far as I know they make more like $50K/yr. which is really good when you factor in they're off for something like 14 weeks out of the year.
