You haven't a clue, so you need to hire one. You are you gonna pay 3k/month for a junk estimator, or 5k/month for a skilled one?
What about a foreman, who are you going to hire that you can trust enough to over-see all work done? You ready to start paying over 6k/month for one?
Also, you can't even answer a simple question of "what would you do to stand out amongst competitors?".
Guarantee your friends arent making as much money as they claim, and like I said before, you have a small piece of the whole story they are telling.

As for the question “what makes you stand out amongst competitors?”
Honestly in my business that question rarely comes up since I usually give an introduction for myself and background. Then I proceed to answer every one of their questions thoroughly. Because I know they are testing my like you are now. So that question should be self evident. I’m not going to stop them from interviewing others. If the question does come up I’ll do a little self promotion.
I am very logical, and very diplomatic. I am complimented all the time. So I can tell you what other say about me. Not what I think of myself.
As the project progresses I am always reachable and firm in my answers. Always. If I don’t know something I admit it. Because there is not much I don’t know in my business.
As always there is the question of price versus value. A good salesperson convey’s that without saying it.
And always always always listen more than you talk.

Dumb.
Also "financial statements" mean ZERO without context.
I've picked up 100k checks for home repairs and renovations, etc. I know most of that money isn't going to the owners pocket, because I know how much labor and material costs. YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THESE THINGS

Also, Its a catch-22, which is why its so rare. If you live in the middle of nowhere its easy to save up money, but you'll never have enough clientele to make a sizeable income, but if you live in a major Metropolitan city you'll have the clientele, but you won't have the money to START the business because living expenses will eat you alive monetarily.
Every rich person I know thats my age (early 30's) is rich because their parents are rich. If you don't have car payments or tuition or rent to worry about and your parents let you take out a $20K loan in their name (because lets face it, no bank is gonna loan that much money to a 20 year old) of course they're gonna be in a better position than the average joe going to a 4 year getting into debt and plopping their ass in an office chair crunching numbers for 30 years.

I live in the middle of no where, 70k people on the island I am on, and the trade business is booming.
Of course, this is due to different factors.
So you really can't say, "If you live in the middle of nowhere its easy to save up money, but you'll never have enough clientele to make a sizeable income"
200k/year not sizable enough for you?
Also, for newbies, starting up in the middle of no where with little competition is probably the BEST place to start. Its hard for new people to stand out, unless, their strategy somewhat differs from the current establishment/market

WTF else is there to say? Reading these statements is investing 101.
Just admit you don’t know what I’m talking about.
I’m not a fukkin tradie, I get driven around in Maserati’s while drinking Asahi’s, I don’t touch tools. I am interested in being an owner. All I care about is the numbers.

The ones who succeed here, are those who are the most knowledgeable of the trade. They are the company's that will always have the most business and best reviews.
If you only care about being an owner, open a retail shop like I did. You control all numbers/profit margins. Also, you only need to know a small fraction of "insider knowledge" compared to the trades.
TRADE BUSINESS OWNERS = TRADIES AT ONE POINT (or they are partnered with a TRADIE)

But so many people don’t even use their degree for their job so it’s really a waste in so many ways.
When instead you can go to school and learn logic, math, and stuff that actually matters in a 1/4 of the time and a 1/16 of the cost it takes to get a useless political science degree.
I promise there are ways to get loans at 20 for $20,0000. You just need to dig, no one is likely to walk up to you and tell you how.
People are going to tell you what benefits them. For business reasons or emotional reasons. You can’t trust what you college instructor tells you, or you manager tells you. Knowing a trade that people need but no one really realizes is hugely under valued. Which is why I named the thread that.
The banks will give a $100,000 loan for a crappy elementary school teaching degree. Come on.

Knew a landscaper who hired work release dudes
He was rich as **** because he could undercut all the competition and only have to pay 6$ an hour for a job a Mexican does for 15
OP if you can find a brilliant business idea like that one then you're gonna be rich
OP if you can't be creative enough for any ideas like the very basic one above then be prepared to be extremely hardworking and persistent if you want to be rich

Because the worker guys always had rent to pay, DUI school to attend, child support payments. So they never “had time” to get a license. So they work for the guys who can sell jobs and own companies.
So that’s why your gonna be waiting a LONG time, like you say, (actually never lets be real) for those workers to decided they want to run a business.

ITT OP cherry picks the top 1% of tradies who managed or inherited a successful business or customer list and combines that with a STRONG survivor-bias.
In real life any competitive business niche (tradies included) are:
• High failure rates
• Large upfront cost/debt/risk
• Extreme competition/low margins
• 90+ hours per-week
These tradie cope threads are cringeworthy. You can tell 99% of the copers know 1 or 2 people who stepped in crap and cling to their stories for dear life. The harsh truth is, the average trade in making average to below average wages and there is nothing romantic about what they do... 100% cope.

Every tradie I know claims they kill it, or know someones friends, uncles, brother twice-removed who does 24 grand a week laying concrete or putting up fences.
But every tradie I see is leasing their trucks and houses, joints and back are destroyed, are alcoholics and opioid abusers that constantly complain about money or divorce. lol

no investor is shown one annual financial statement to determine whether or not a business is doing well
no one with any ounce of business intelligence would continuously refer to financials as "YTD P&L and Balance Sheet" unless they were sitting on investopedia trying to build bs
no one with an ounce of intelligence would make up this story without referring to cash flow
no one would see their business struggling and think, before anyone else, that they should approach some marketer or whatever you think you are to save their business
in the name of reddit thats gonna be a yikes from me pal
