Everyone is different but this is day 1–> day 30 —> day 65

Congrats on being sober. Alcoholism is prevalent in my family.
pros are great at it. Chit, I was drinking 7 days a week while I was training jiu jitsu 5-6 days a week, competing once a month, and still finding time to lift and run... But it takes its toll, and it comes out of nowhere...

Agh yes, reasons.

I wanted to be a better man for my girl.
I didn’t want her kids (the misc won’t like that but someone already made a thread about my personal life in that manner lol) to see someone drinking 20 beers a night.
I wanted to save money.

Now for the thread to change direction lol

That's a big one: learning to socialize while sober. I'm a pretty quiet person by nature, not shy at all like I was as a kid, but when I'd get drunk I was the life of the party, doing and saying ridiculous but funny sht. It has taken a while to get to where I feel totally comfortable in social situations while sober, but I'm pretty much there now. First couple months, even playing poker with friends, I just felt awkward as fuk. It has taken a conscious effort to learn to be funny and social while sober. I realized that ever since I was 15, I used alcohol as a social crutch, in nearly every social situation. I'm sure my friends and family do miss the drunk John$Galt (not the very drunk one - no one liked him), and so do I sometimes, but that wasn't the real John$Galt.

One of the great benefits of quitting, other than physique and health, is that my mental state is no longer a roller coaster. I'm very stable emotionally, just content instead of super happy and super sad/angry. Haven't gotten in a single fight with my girl this year, and we'd have some bad ones a few times a year when I was drunk as sh*t.

It will never cease to amaze me how alcoholism is glorified in our society. Alcohol has destroyed more lives than anything else. I'm not an anti-drinking *******, but somewhere in the middle where I see people who drink a lot and don't realize the negative effects it's having on their lives. Your average adult still thinks it's cool to talk about how wasted he got last night. He still thinks it's funny to be hungover at work - "Oh man, what a night!" So lame. But then the reason this sh*t bothers me is because I see my former self in others, so I can't judge.

Great accomplishment , and i know it doesn't phase you, but fuk people with their " oh hur dur, raising another man's offspring, CUCK!". It's pathetic. A kid without a father figure did not ask for that life, they are innocent in this case. It takes a good person to step up to the role and provide a good role model for a young person. I have a daughter, and a step daughter so I can easily relate.

Way too much truth in one post.

I too was worried I’d lose my edge or that goofiness that I thought made people want to be around me. And you’re right, one your mind is clear, the mental stability is a game changer. I see a lot of kids here do it and I did it too but I was raised with a bit of the victim mindset so as soon as I was able to strip that and realize my faults that caused much of my problems. Decision making is much better as well.

It is totally fuked that it is so socially normal to the point where even the people she works with drink in her law office Thursday and Friday afternoons. I’ve watched it completely destroy lives and I’m thankful for those that have been able to fight through it.

Thanks brother and you’re right...I couldn’t care less about what strangers that are 22 think about my choices...it’s silly. These are the same people that do completely fuked up chit but hide it so they aren’t attacked by it...I’m not concerned about being “discredited”. Could you imagine going to your chick (you’ve seen her) and being like “hey babe...you’re gonna have to go”...What...why??? “Oh, I’m influenced by a bunch of faceless, self-hating kids on a forum...you understand”. Hahahahaha

And happy to hear you live that way as well.

My left trap looks dropped a bit but I was beat on by my sports therapist because of a nerve issue I'm dealing with.

Was any diet alteration involved in this? Or did this result from simply dropping the booze? Either way, great transformation while adding strength in the process.

Good work man. I'll never quit drinking because I love it. But I also only drink socially and probably like once a week on average. Know a few guys who were near death from drinking and still are. One is doing pretty good at not going back. The other is in hospital weekly and has been told if he doesn't stop he is dead. Lots his 6 figure job, lost nice house, got divorced (wife was evil bitch so that was fine), but pretty much gave up everything for booze.
