Autism is the new ADHD--the new excuse for every idiot with a problem. Just as every kid who was a bit hyper was prescribed Ritalin, there's a small percentage of "autists" who have an actual medical condition and a whole bunch who are merely maladjusted, socially awkward, and/or a bit stupid.
As for the rise of these socially maladjusted individuals, it likely has something to do with chitty upbringing, the rise of the Internet and smart phones (and therefore less practice with real social interaction), and a few other things that don't come to mind right now.

As for the OP, I don't have an answer but the incidences of Autism are increasing at an alarming rate. Would imagine it's from a multitude of factors, and I don't know how anyone could automatically rule out vaccinations as a possible cause. If you look at the vaccine scheduling and the increase in rates of autism there is a huge correlation. Every since we started vaccinating for everything under the sun, autism rates undoubtedly increased. No anti-vax, but I think way too many are given when children are way too young, and I think it is at least a possibility that needs to be looked at. Unfortunately everyone is so sensitive to the subject you can't raise the question about whether or not our excessive vaccination practices have led to the spike in autism.

over diagnosis. theres kids who are perfectly normal being diagnosed as "high functioning autistic" because they display 1 or 2 minor symptoms.

Nope. The rates between vaccinated and unvaccinated children are the same. Anti-vaxers should be exterminated for promoting dangerous, bunk science

People looking for it.
Personally, I really don't believe it's actually a thing (or a lesser thing). Yes, people develop behavioral patterns, but as to why we would need a label, I am cynical about it, and suspect a kind of job validation hysteria spun from lab coat priests.

We don't even know what Autism is (spectrum)...so how can we begin to know what "causes" it. Citing virtually no credible studies indicating that someone became "Autistic" after a certain vaccine proves nothing. No one can sit down and tell you that x,y,z changes in this area of the brain are why your kid is "autistic". Right now it's just a clinical characterization that if you behave a certain way you are classified on a spectrum of "Autism" but in reality we are completely clueless as scientists as to the exact mechanism of what Autism really is and what causes it.

Check the DSM-5 for the diagnostic criteria, I assure you one exists. And there are objective findings in those with Autism. Ie enlarged ventricles, abnormal EEG, increased dopamine/seratonin levels. Combine that with a kid who can't form a sentence at 5 years old and that's what a typical case of autism is. Yes it's a spectrum disorder, but I think too many of you have been watching rainmain. 75% of autistic children have an IQ equivalent to mental retardation

But little Sammy who waits until three to say his first word and it’s a long sentence isn’t necessarily autistic
Can we even measure dopamine and serotonin levels yet?
I didn’t think we could as that would be how to diagnose clinical depression.

Triggering more activity in the brain, or even a brain that is still being developed, are considerations scientists should factor in with their studies but these guys are like hammers lookong for nails.
You can take 'statistics' and prove any correlation to be the cause.
A spectrum means = we really can't say for certain so we'll just say he has a little bit. Profit.
How about parents actually raise their kids.

Your comment about statistics and correlation is true, but then you could argue against every major disease.
and no spectrum means that there's different levels of functioning associated with the disorder. Have you ever met anyone with autism? it's pretty apparent. The misc is acting like autism is ADHD. There's different stages of cancer, is that because they can't say for sure whether or not someone has it? profit.
Saying autism is due to bad parenting is just ignorant - again I feel like you're confusing ASD with ADHD or something.

I have to get a physical written scrip and take it by hand to the pharmacy and then the pharmacy still has to call the doctor's office to confirm that the scrip is legit. And I have to do this every single month - can't get more than 30 days at one time.Think there is over-diagnosis too though, it's the same with mental illness. They just want to throw any medication they can at you has been my experience. Especially now with the trend to discontinue use of scheduled medications. I had to go all the way out to Utah to be prescribed ******** because of chit going on around here. I come back here and they take me off immediately and try and throw me on all sorts of other medications instead of the chit I need.

We need better technology of some kind. The problem with autism is it is too broadly characterized. Think convergent evolution. Different disorders or symptoms can appear the same when in fact they’re not the same or have the same causes. Couple this with overdiagnosis and parents being frustrated with their children’s delayed development and going to doctor after doctor until someone diagnose their kid with something.
To the topic: Stress (or possibly inflammation) on the mother during pregnancy is linked with autism.
https://www.sciencedaily.com/release...0607220116.htm
Linked to ADD also.
And if you do think that stress > inflammation then the increase in both would make sense.
Because we do seem to have increased stress in general, less than ideal amounts of sleep, increased consumption of sugar and higher rates of obesity which I believe are all correlated with inflammation.
It may have been here that I read about the epithelium and heart disease. The epithelium in our gut is important too.
https://www.popsci.com/inflammatory-...eferral#page-3
It is possible that something that we have added to our environment and/or something in our diet is damaging our epithelium cells and causing increases in disease.

Im not convinced there is sufficient evidence there is a massive increase in autism.
1- autism was only invented/discovered in the early 1900s. Thats only 3-4 generations. We have no data for the last 200,000 years since homo sapiens have emerged. Nobody was called autistic in the 1800s even though obviously the condition existed, it just was not yet named autism.
2 - the definition of autism keeps expanding. How can you have accurate data if you expand the diagnosis over time? Are their more autism cases over the last 3 generations because the condition really is more common or is it because we have expanded the definition to the point that any under socialized weirdo now counts the same as someone who will need 24/7 care their entire life in the national autism tallies.

Nothing caused it because its bull****.
They have been trying to make little boys into defective girls for years.
When i was a kid the kid who had autism was like someone you really pitied because he was in a wheelchair and retarded and such.
Now and actual little boy with biy energy is suppsoed to be like that kin in the wheelchair.
With all of ours medical advances why do more people have diseases? wouldnt you think that with all the advances and funding that fewer people have them?
do the maths yourselves.
Just ask yourself. ever see a little girl with autism?

people/govt/society doesn't even care about the rise in obesity and cancer rates caused by sugar and refined carbs. U think they care about autism rates??

I think it has increased, there are 4 young boys in my block and i would guess three are autistic. The worst being 8 years old and dresses like Review brah, either that or he's time travelled from the 1950's. he has a brother who is completely normal and dresses like any other kid. srs

relevant to this discussion:
CDC Blocks Key Whistleblower Testimony From Autism-Vaccine Case
A key part of the case hinges on testimony from Dr. William Thompson, a research scientist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Immunizations and Respiratory Diseases (NCIR).
He was a co-author of four key studies the CDC has used to refute a link between the MMR (mumps, measles and rubella) vaccine and autism, as well as thimerosal-containing vaccines (thimerosal is a mercury-based preservative) and autism.
Thompson claimed the CDC covered up a vaccine-autism connection in relation to the MMR vaccine. According to a news release provided by the World Mercury Project;1
"Dr. Thompson has publically stated to Congressman William Posey and others that he and his colleagues in the CDC Vaccine Safety Branch were ordered to commit scientific fraud, destroy evidence and manipulate data to conceal the link between autism and vaccines."
According to Thompson, one of the studies in question found that African-American boys who received the MMR vaccine before the age of 36 months had an increased risk for autism.2 He also maintains that CDC studies have found a relationship between thimerosal and tics, which are associated with autism.3
