They did a probe but did not tell me the numbers... I was afraid to ask. They did say I had periodontal disease, but we caught it somewhat early... honestly I hope they are just trying to sell me on deep cleans. After they are all done, I'll get a second opinion, but for now, I will act like I do have the disease. Thank you.

Yea I read the same statistic this morning. Miscers, get your teeth and gums checked! Most people who have it do not even know.

How deep are your pockets?

Did they measure it OP?

They use a periodontal probe to measure how many milometers it goes down.

Every single person has some gum separation normal range is 1-3 mm.

3-6mm is worrying.

6-9mm is danger time.

9-12mmm is your teeth will fall out. Need to see periodontist. (laser surgery/flap etc)

When I was diagnosed with said disease. They told me my pockets ranged from 3-6mm.

In my case they said it was shiit genetics.

However after going for deep cleaning every 3-4 months.

Flossing/waterpik flosser/brushing after every meal.

Most of my pockets have reduced by 1 mm.

The 6mm has stayed the same as floss can only go 3mm max so impossible to reach down there without dental cleaning.

If your gums are bleeding ask for prescription mouthwash called peridex.

That kills all the bacteria that causes gum detachment.

If you have questions I can answer few as I dealt/dealing with same shiit.

Also don't worry its not end of world.

Just floss after every meal.

This stuff happens over years and not over few months.

Okay I'm almost positive they're just trying to get you back in for a deep clean. Even if you're at a 4 and 5, you can brush and floss regularly and will see significant improvement. If they didn't see any decay and you don't have a toothache just step up your hygiene game.

I see you live in Canada. Are you having insurance pay for this or you're paying out of pocket. I can tell you right now you're probably getting hosed on those 'deep cleanings.' They sold you hard which is what they were trying to do. I work in dental and I know the business model.

Covered by insurance.

Here one deep cleaning is 160$ if you don't have insurance.

I had 3 deep cleaning sessions this year.

They already told me, that my levels are being maintained and reduced that cleaning can be done every 6-8 months going forward.

As my dental hygiene is OCD level.

After diagnosis.

I'm sorry but that is absolutely absurd that they had you come in for 3 cleanings. The hygienist that sold you on this gets a spiff for every cleaning she sells. The fact that they had you come in for 3 cleanings is borderline theft in my book.

If your parents had it then it doesn't matter how much you take care of yourself you will have a higher chance of getting it. it's horrible but it's true. Also if it doesn't look like this you have nothing to worry about for now. Just stay on top of the flossing and brushing , also rinse with hydroxyl peroxide 1-2 times a week.

You just need a deep clean, and get regular cleanings after that. I did the same thing, hadn't been to a dentist in years prior. Got the deep clean, plus going every 6 months to get regular cleaning. Gums are still kinda not at a 100 percent, but way better than what they were.

Thanks brah. They did measure but did not tell me how deep. Hopefully not too bad, but I'll be very strict with my teeth and gums from here on out. Good luck to you too man.

Really? Good thing its covered here than.

Have friend in dental school.

She told me that as long I floss regularly/ waterpik / brush etc. after every meal.

The levels can be maintained easily without any bone loss.

If its above 6-7mm there is no way to reach down there without deep cleaning.

Asked the dentist about oil pulling.

He just lol'd said that does nothing.

Not absurd at all if it was 3 appointments to get all 4 quadrants done. He is only billed for each quadrant once so there is no extra money being made here. You can bill 4 quads in one sitting for 4 in 4 sittings, the fee is the same

Sup, I got hit with the same thing a couple years ago. Even though I had been to a dentist fairly recently, my new one told me how bad my teeth really were. I have significant gum recession. As the gum recedes, so does the bone. Right now, you need to be on top of your brushing and flossing game and halt the progression of the disease. Then, get deep cleanings every 3 or 4 months at the dentist. In my case, the periodontist wants to perform surgery to fix my gum recession. This involves taking pieces of tissue from the roof of your mouth and basically sewing it onto your gums to hide the exposed tooth roots. It honestly sounds miserable and I've been procrastinating going through with it even though I know I need to. I think I'm going to get it done next year.

Good luck OP, any and all medical problem suck to deal with.

My dad had periodontal disease for like 3 or 4 decades and never lost any teeth. Just start having better dental hygiene and you'll be fine.
