What we have now is called a market failure. We DON'T have a free market because employers are leveraging our social safety nets to artificially shift wage cost to taxpayers. They know we aren't going to let people die in the streets, so we let them bilk us for billions every year. That is the real problem that gets lost in this argument.

I just don't see why someone working a low skilled job should be paid anything more than what someone else would be willing to do it for. If min wage was so horrible, we wouldn't have anyone willing to work those jobs.

There's also the fact that a rather small proportion of the adult working population make minimum wage. What this means is that prices and costs will largely go up for the lower-middle and middle class and small business owners. Large corporations can get away with laying off more employees and have computers/machines do their work while also raising prices for consumers.
The flip side is that raising the minimum wage raises the buying power of the very poor, meaning that they can contribute more to the economy. However, like I said, they make up a small proportion of the population. But it's honestly unlikely that this small benefit does more good than harm for the overall population. It's one of those things that sound good on paper, but in practice it probably won't work that well.

There are lots of countries out there that do treat their poor like that and you don't want to live in any of them. They are all major chitholes.

What we have now is called a market failure. We DON'T have a free market because employers are leveraging our social safety nets to artificially shift wage cost to taxpayers. They know we aren't going to let people die in the streets, so we let them bilk us for billions every year. That is the real problem that gets lost in this argument.

here are some economics that will blow your mind:
my mom owns a small business.
she keeps 2.5 employees working at all times (sometimes 2, sometimes 3).
the store is open 100 hours per week, so 250 employee hours per week.
250 * 52 = 13000 employee hours per year
she only makes $100k in a good year (rare), and $50k in a bad year.
now, imagine if minimum wage went up $1. that is $13000 extra salary paid just for a small wage increase. that is a significant part of her income gone.
now imagine if it went all the way up to $15. she would be absolutely fukt.
she would have to both cut number of employees working at a time + raise prices.
minimum wage is not supposed to be a livable wage.
IMO minimum wage should be $10-11 max.

The money then gets sent to the Salary Cap Agency and sits there until they can redistribute the money back into your companies lowest employees.
That's the only thing that works.

because they are cruel people who don't have souls
take a look at apple for example, these guys sell iphones for 1k a pop where the cost of labour per unit is literally 5 dollars
i mean kids are talking about companies making less profits but the thing is companies like apple literally don't even do anything with their profits except horde it
absolutely shameful

While we supposedly can't afford to pay some full time workers to a living wage, CEO's and executives now earn 271 times the average wage, up from 30 times in 1978.

Though I will add if the minimum wage is too low then it results in an underclass dependent upon welfare that we the tax payer end up funding. People should not have to rely on welfare to have a basic living.
Ideally the minimum wage would be a living wage which results in minimal price rises being past onto consumers and them not having to rely more on tax payers generosity to support welfare payments to them.

Raising the minimum wage isn't necessary. You know why?Because very few adults actually earn minimum wage. In fact, only 2% of the work force actually earns minimum wage! And the ones that do are single people under 25 that don't need the money!
Adults with responsibilities do what adults are supposed to do:they find better-paying jobs on their own!You really think there are adults in the country earning minimum wage for any extended period of time? Just stuck at the bottom, working their butts off month in and month out, year in and year out.....for minimum wage?LOL!!!!!! Ignorant OP is ignorant
