Hitting a guy who is handcuffed with his hands behind his back is just as bad as hitting a girl. Cop shouldn't have used force unless the suspect posed a physical threat. Maybe the cop viewed spitting as a threat because the guy could have had aids or some other disease? I dunno but it looked like the cop just lost his cool which is unacceptable.

I took a few community college courses that were taught by police officers a long time ago when I was considering a career in law enforcement. I remember one of them saying that they had a personal policy that if somebody spits on them, they're going to the hospital.

Don't they have face masks for biters and spitters? Should just calmly gag him up. Then you put the guy in a cell, leave him like that for a few hours, see if he's settled down. Once someone realises they're going to be in cuffs and a gag until they behave, they're likely to comply.

IMO... It's unreasonable force for what happened. The guy was sitting down and cuffed and got knocked out because... he spit on the officer? Nope. This is the kind of hot headed behavior that gets cops in trouble and makes the whole profesion look bad. Even if you side with the cop because spit is technically assault or he might be carrying diseases, the moment he's done spitting the "threat" is over. The dude is still cuffed and sitting down, poses no more threat, so responding by knocking him out is just over the top. Show some restraint. Don't agree with the cops actions at all. I'm all for not letting people walk over officers but you don't knock people out like that. I wouldn't even respond like that if the guy wasn't handcuffed, the fact that he's handcuffed makes it that much worse. If an officer I was working with did this I would be obligated to tell a supervisor.
