i would prefer if those 3 states could peacefully form their own country

that way they can have their own laws and rules and the rest of the country can stop acting as their welfare etc

A much more likely scenario would be that California, Oregon and Washington secede. I think that the red states would let them go and New England would fight hard to keep them in the union for political reasons. If the southern states tried to do it again there is no way the US would let them leave.

Honestly the best solution would be to have a looser connection to other states than we have now. Something closer to the EU where we have a national free trade and travel zone with a common military but social issues would be handled on a more local level. I think that regions would have a lot less animosity towards each other if this were the case
