But keep in mind similar issues can be found in an office as well. Go look around a large city downtown core and the obesity rate is really high. People sitting down in front of a computer all day get all kind of back and neck problems. And don't forget that staring at a computer screen isn't the best for your eyes long term. And the depression rate is sky high in that population.

A load of new cars comes in needing PDI's, they pay 1.8 hrs each and you could bang out 10 in an 8hr day, you bank 18 hrs for 8 worked.

On a 10on-4off schedule you are making over 150k a year with camp/bussing provided. Now thats all time and a half and they killed the pension contributions.

Remember that in Alberta the population increased by 25% in 10 years, like 4 times faster than the rest of the country. The guys selling rig rockets and snowmobiles were usually looking for some cash to move back to Ontario or Newfoundland.
Nobody burned through cash or developed a chitty attitude faster than a Newfie flexing on his buddies about his truck drivin or welders helper job.

Ive only been doing scaffolding a year and my prevailing wage on a ****ty commercial job we did up in La Jolla was about 60$ hr. That job sucked but I made a lot of that day.
That’s just a ****ty scaffolding job. Imagine what the highest bid is for competent sparkies/welders.
Yes people bid on tradies like **** on eBay lmao

But suicide rates are insanely higher among pretty much any job physical in nature. That goes for both skilled trades and labor.
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Machinists, welders and maintenance guys at my work make over $100k/year with overtime... and I live in a pretty LOW cost of living area. Average single family 3br 2ba home in nice area is under $200k.
some guys are missing teeth, live in trailer parks or rent small apartments, smoke like crazy, gamble alot away, child support/alimony, invest nothing, not even smart enough to set up 401k (that the company matches), etc etc... Blows my mind that these dudes are making more than most college educated professionals.

And again, Police officers have great pay and get incentive to stay in shape and an amazing pension plan... but the PTSD, suicide and divorce is really high for them. Each field has its ups and down.

-Oil prices increase, capital investment increases, new production increases
-Demand increases, to which degree is determined by a range of factors
-New production capacity outpaces demand growth, which drives the price down
-Decreased prices result in reduced capital investment and slower production growth
-Demand outpaces new production growth and prices increase
It’s only a matter of time before the reduced production growth drives prices up again. Oil demand ain’t going anywhere but up for the next few decades at least
