Being a millionaire doesn’t mean that much anymore. Here in Australia it can disappear quickly especially.

I am not a millionaire and to me it is a lot.

But to put it in context... 1 billion is 1000 million. Think about that...and think about that there are quite a few people who were billionaires who have gone legit bankrupt.

It can change really fast when life hits hard.

One of the most perplexing questions to me is whether humans are altruistic or selfish

Toddlers, without being told, will inherently help an adult without being told to do so; i.e. if they drop something, the toddler will pick it up and give it to the adult to help them. Again, thats without being told to do so

As a species, humans were nomadic and travelled in groups. If you look at your body and hands you didnt develop any mechanism like an apex predator to take down prey; humans took down big game in groups

Yet here you have someone whom is already well situated going way beyond what he has to that it only extends toward taking away from other people

If you take the individualistic approach, it makes sense. The guy is just being selfish and hoarding everything

But that to me, doesnt explain how we got here through evolution

One of those is defunct and one of those seems to be the antithesis to humanity.. And im not sure which one is which

Sure there is an element of luck etc. but a lot of it comes down to mindset. Mike Tyson burned through 400M.

I think if you were to somehow redistribute all the world's wealth perfectly evenly across everyone, within a short period of time we'd be back at something approximating today's distribution. Dat dere Pareto principle!

Yup. Within 5 years, most are roughly back where they started - minus friends and family, if the initial win is big enough.

You don't make millions if you don't have the strong desire to win in life. And that doesn't go away just cause you have a million or two.

Pretty much someone like Drake is still living life just fine, but for someone working 80 hours a week and barely sleeping yeah that would suck

False. There has been a substantial real increase in per capita wealth especially over the past century thanks to productivity gains. This is reflected in massive gains in lifestyle such that even "poor" people in North America today (let's say bottom quintile) live better than royalty just a couple hundred years ago in terms of personal comfort, safety, health care, entertainment and travel options, etc. etc. Sure they might only have 2 big screen TV's and they feel poor bc they compare themselves to everyone else with more, but by any objective measure the increase has been massive.

I have this mentality too OP.

Think of it this way, if you had $1,000,000 put into diversified mutual funds making 8-12%... that's $80k-$120k annual income (before taxes). Who needs more than that? Unless you're in a high cost of living area, then maybe you'd want more.

But once the house is paid off, all other debts are paid off, you've got a liquid emergency fund, you've got liquid expenses equal to 1-2 years of your living expenses, and you've got $1,000,000+ in investments/rentals generating a total annual income that's almost double the country's average household income... why should you keep working? Only way is if you LOVE it, but even then there's plenty of leisurely activities and hobbies that you can LOVE even more with less stress and pain!

Op you should read "the millionaire next door". It's a book that explains how millionaires became millionaires. Usually it's very frugal spending habits. Most of em take pleasure in saving money. They get a high from good deals on used cars, etc.

Your entire premise of life is that one day you will be dead so acquire nothing except experience, even though just like money, experience doesn't come with you when you die. However you have no tangible proof or even logical proof that experiences ultimately matter more upon death. This is not arguable from either side and your only argument would in fact be that you personally think experience is more important. You then diminish the accomplishments of others and also assume they have done nothing "worldly" or adventurous when in reality I'm sure most of these people are more well cultured and traveled than you are.

If a man wants to wake up everyday and work himself down to nothing but a pile of bones, that's on him and perhaps the legacy he leaves behind for his family or community is more important than the self absorbed thought that nothing else matters except what fun things I can do right now for myself. Bill gates didn't need to continue making money, but he chose to and now has worked to stop the spread of diseases, something he couldn't do if he was just coasting beach to beach posting on instagram to garner attention of others through some trivial filtered photo of an experience others deemed worthy of his time.

I'm talking about not just the main things but also the little things that bother you on a regular basis. Imho, it's not supposed to be that way. Money is supposed to be used to free up our time. To have freedom in our lives. To live so peacefully with close to zero stress as much as possible. If I had millions, I would probably not work anymore. I know I am set for life and the life of my family most importantly. Personally, I would use it to experience the beauty of life through traveling and living to different places on earth. I would be the most badass human alive.

Life is supposed to celebrate life. Appreciate everything in this world and be thankful and grateful for everything.
Money is a by product of success, the more you have the more you can build your dream and help people stfu and stop preaching. If this is how you want to live then have it, but don't try tell other people how to live. Money is a tool and you need it to achieve things. Someone who is running a successful company and makes it to one million dollars doesn't just shut down shop and fire his staff who need jobs you dumb *******.

Your more greedy and selfish than any millionaire. They employ and help many people and you help no one, 0! You are on a bodybuilding forum rotting your life away. You probably barely scrapping by in life, and looking through instagram mad at successful men /women who are millionaires, secure and safe. Saying man those greedy fcks should give it up! If I had one million I would quit. Do you realize how greedy and selfish you are?

Read a fcking annual report it's free to read for any company you call greedy or should give it up, have a look how much it cost to employee and run the buildings the workers are in. Then stfu.

you would quit and fire your staff shut it down, no more products, no more staff cause you want sit back at one million!?

Read the book called "MONEY" get fcking educated brah. It is the history of MONEY from the beginning when people trade huge rocks as currency.

Money is not a something you gain so you can sit around gaming and watching netflix all day *******. THat's why your fcking poor you think if you get one million you can just sit back and do nothing, your a loser and selfish as fck.
I just want to share the knowledge I have obtained throughout my life and hopefully change someone's life.
