This. I combine this with US bank cards which offer two 5% categories and one 2% category to fill in gaps that amazon doesn’t cover. Chase freedom card only used when they offer gas at 5%.

I've been to nine different countries and lived abroad for a year. I just don't travel frequently at this point in my life, and only fly domestically about once a year on average right now. So a travel benefit card just really doesn't make sense me right now.

Even if the $250 fee didn't pay for itself. I'd pay just to not look like a pleb. Just lmao at doublecashcels

Obviously we all have different motives. I personally have a plethora of cards but will be cutting down to the amex plat, chase Sapphire reserve, and alliant cashback.

OP only cares about cashback, not any of the benefits that come with more premium cards. They don't make sense given his lifestyle.

Part of me wants a decent cash back card to churn TBH having read this thread more.

I have to wait until May 04, 2016 to be eligible for the Chase Sapphire Reserve's bonuses since I already have a CSP and there's a four year waiting period between the Chase Sapphire family cards and being eligible for bonuses.

The Chase Ink Preferred I love for this.

It's a decent everyday card but the 3% foreign transaction fee kills it for me so I don't use it

yeah honestly what keeps me afloat is that I make good money lmao I won't lie. I have thought about that too...spending habits.

I still save up and pay my card in full every time though.

I REALLY like the Chase Ink Preferred for what I spend my money on though, but I hardly use my Chase Freedom now. I probably use one card, churn it, and have an every day card. I don't have an every day cash back one right now. Tempted now with all this discussion though lol. My credit cards:

- AMEX Platinum (Actually my sister's account, she's military so the annual fee is waived. Helped her hit her bonus while she was overseas.)
- Chase Sapphire Preferred
- Chase Freedom
- Chase Ink Preferred
- Synchrony Carcare One (GOAT for car expenses. I rarely use this but it's very useful if you have unexpected car maintenance that comes up)

So regarding transferring points to investment accounts, you convert the points to cash and invest with that?

Yes, these cards will get you in the mindset that you constantly need to spend money for some off benefit. Not a good thing imo. On top of that I rarely spend money on things now that I've bought what I need in life. It's all about lifestyle, and if you got one that makes sense then by all means exploit the game.

Yeah with the Schwab platinum you get the everything the normal one has plus some extra benefits exclusive to Schwab. This seems a little outdated but the exclusive perks are the same

Yup. It gives you 1.25 cents per point, which isn't like a really nice Delta awards redemption, but it's still nice.

It's what I do with all my MRs because I usually end up with plenty of URs and other options. The alternative is letting them sit, not earning money.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

I agree, though the past month I haven't been saving like I should, but I still put money in my 401K and HA so I'm good.

Still an interesting concept.

Yeah I have to be aware of that too. I will say that I have opened cards because I anticipated making big purchases. May or may be a good idea. You can be dancing with the devil with playing with these cards. Luckily I make a high salary and aware of that stuff.

I like traveling but don't travel as much. I bet it would be a money suck if you traveled and used your cards.

Where you're confused is that you still set aside money from your paycheck - and then you invest more.

Credit card points are after-tax income. For me, earning 4x on dining with Gold and converting it into five cents at Schwab is equivalent to about seven cents of earned income pre-tax. I'm often also stacking 4x on a gift card at a supermarket with MRs earned through eBates, so it's common enough to be pulling in 10-15 points per dollar on things I was going to do anyway.

Which I then dump into my Roth if I have nothing else to do with them for tax-free gainz on stonks.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

Oh I'm not confused in the least...I put the max dollar amount on 401k, the max dollar amount in my roth IRA and still dump a nice chunk into crypto, the middle man CC perks to investment account just seems like a headache for these "CC pennies"

I get the point of it....it's that the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'll take cash back on the CC that offer the most on things I will buy anyway (gas, groceries, eating out) over that any day of the week. Repped for your hustle

My personal fave cheat code is using my grocery CC to buy gift cards at Giant Eagle for Home Depot when I''m remodeling (or any purchase I need to make anyway) and getting the the cash back for the grocery store purchase AND getting fuel perks for the grocery store purchase then taking those fuel perks to get huge discount on gas and using my gas CC to pay for it and get CB on the gas. lol
