-Drugs/paraphernalia

-Loitering on a side-walk/roadway. Or constructing a tent on a sidewalk/roadway. (Obstructing the flow of foot traffic/traffic).
-Being told to leave any area and refusing to comply.
-Urinating/defecating in public.
-Begging


They commit any of those offenses ^ and they can be arrested and jailed. With only the clothes on their back. Every single thing they own is now 'abandoned' property which can be disposed of. Obviously you can't hold them forever. But you can rejail them for any of the above offenses ^. And again dispose of whatever property they left lying around. If literally everything you do as a lifestyle gets you jailed and you lose everything you own. Its only a matter of time when they offer them a one way bus ticket to another city as they are being released from jail. They GTFO the area. And now, you've pushed the problem out of your area.





All it takes is a zero tolerance policy towards vagrants. The laws are already in place. The police would be more then willing to enforce them. This is what happens in places that doesn't want homeless everywhere living in tents, shooting up, begging, etc.

Yeah, but battling alcoholism and drug addiction is a losing battle. Not that it shouldn't be done, but how do you go about it?

wouldn't step 1 be fighting the over-prescription drug crisis that nobody wants to even address?

I read somewhere that a large amount of homeless has schizophrenia and a large issue with that is they forget to take 1 pill(or multiple) and it spirals into homelessness from there. There is a new drug coming in the near future that's an injection/implant that lasts a long time (6months+ i think) that will be able to really help a lot of these people. They at least will have their head on straight and some percentage will be able to move forwards instead of stagnate in a schizophrenic nightmare

Thank god we can take care of illegal immigrants and give them jobs for cheaper than minimum wage, instead of help our own citizens.

Once you're homeless its hard to get out of that hole, because NO ONE WANTS TO HIRE A HOMELESS PERSON. So what happens? A further downward spiral with drugs, and adaptation to the lifestyle.

Nothing short of a military coup could save California at this point. You can't kick out the bad lawmakers if the majority like them in a democracy. The place I grew up in has this issue on a much, much smaller scale. Its gotten worse every year I've been alive and for the past 20 years I've thought to myself "This must be the bottom" but they keep finding new ways to fuk it up

@guest89, arresting them just drains more taxpayer money to give them free housing and food.

Addressing the root of the problem (over-prescription of opioids and lack of economic mobility) is a good start but then what do we do about the ones who are already deep down the rabbit hole? I feel like a solutionsimilarto jail would work. Basically create buildings similar to how a prison is set up: housing, food, clothes, and shower in exchange for labor. Make it an open-door thing where they can leave at any time but can also be kicked out for possession of drugs, gang activity, or not being productive.

According to that graphic San Diego dropped homeless population by 7%. How did they do it rather than see the same type of increase?

Sucks to see business owners have to shut down or move (probably at massive expense) because of homeless people. Don't even want to visit that state.

We have damn near 200 million acres of National Forest Land in the US...that's double the size of the UK alone.
