Theres a family member on my wifes side that has alopecia. I met him long after he went baldcel. I didnt even know he had it, figured he just shaved a lot.

People who know you will get used to it and wont ever think of you with hair, and new people you meet probably wont be the wiser.

Like the other ******* said, at least youre not a conehead or anything. Probably a bish to control the sweat when you work out, otherwise meh, life goes on.

Its funny because even my roomate says he doesn't remember me with hair. It's too the point where most family, co workers, and friends know me as without hair now. I had trouble at first not wanting people to see me, but I got over that. Yes the sweat always goes in my eyes but it's no biggie. There are atleast benefits to this disease.

So I just buzzed my head before Halloween and this is the progress I've made since then. I'm also starting to get a ton of facial hair, minor body hair and finally some eyebrow hair.

Looks like your going to make a full recovery, grats brah, although you wore it well imo.
Did you ever find out what caused it? I understand it's an auto immune disease. Did something show in your blood panels?

My thoughts is leaky gut and a vitamin deficiency. My vitamin d was really low. I've been taking high does of d3 and k2 and avoiding gluten.

My hair is coming back though. Id rather just shave/buzz my head than to spend 3000$ on a cosmetic fix.

Woah bro! Glad to see this positive news and very happy for you.

I started having alopecia arreata on my scalp in one spot for like 6 months but then that grew back in, although a new spot moved to my beard/neck area and I've had that spreading while refilling-in spot for a few years now. Super weird disease, and I had a huge blow to my confidence like you did. Things shift from getting better and getting worse all the time.

I've read about leaky gut and have avoided gluten in the past to no noticeable benefit. I've always felt like my gut isn't super great though; frequently experienced mild burping and stuff. PM me if you care to share what things you've tried and the benefit you experienced. THanks!

Aye op, I think the part that may make u look a bit intimidating is the lack of eyebrows. Im sure this is really big in the USA, I'm in the Caribbean and girls have started doing this microneedling thing that basically fills in their eyebrows with a special tattoo pen that's made for that.

Either way, good on you for being a man and sharing your story.

Yeah the disease is so weird. No one knows much about it besides being an autoimmune disease. I did my own research to help fix my problem. We shall see if I did enough. I can definitely PM on things I've tried/done to try and fix this.

Yeah the eyebrows are the thing I miss the most. Some people thought I had cancer whenever I had literally zero hair. I realized it was only hair and to be honest even I miss it, I'm not dwell on it

That British actor Joseph Gatt has the same thing as you lost all his hair

When Gatt was a teenager he found out he was colour blind, preventing him from fulfilling his dream of joining the RAF and becoming a fighter pilot. The stress of this news was possibly the trigger for his alopecia universalis, which he was diagnosed with at age 12.[1] This rare medical condition caused all of Gatt's hair to fall out at the age of 14.

OP, you look like a different person in every picture LOL. You look good with or without hair (more badass without IMO).

PS - I got my eyebrows microbladed, it's virtually painless and looks hella real lmao. Don't have to fill in my eyebrows when I do my makeup anymore. Just be sure to look for someone good.

All the research about leaky gut and auto immune disease connection hasn't lead me to anything. I've done strict diets for up to 2 months and noticed no benefit to my alopecia (mine is much less severe than OPs).

A few things I've noticed when I just pay attention to my body though is that I tend to feel kind of crappy when attempting to digest vegetables. Cooked and smaller portions of vegetables are okay, but when I've tried to add raw vegetables to my smoothies it's a struggle. I'm burping for hours and just feel bloated. But I don't have any pain from digesting junk food, or meats or fruits.

I also take pro-biotics and digestive enzymes (especially when eating harder to digest food like veggies).

no one knows tbh. Since it is autoimmune it could be a lot of things. I believe mine was my vitamin d deficiency compounded with the fact of poor dietary choices that would cause inflammation. Stress may have been ignitor

So I had a foot of my colon out years ago and always had symptoms of IBD. Once I started changing my dietary choices I noticed a huge change in my overall health/bowel habits. I used to use the toilet for number 2 purposes on average 10+ times a day. It was brutal.

See alopecia is such a tricky disease that leaky gut may not be causing it for you. I did find it extremely fascinating that a lot of our immune system is regulated from our gut. Pretty crazy when you think about it. I think doctors charge right toward a drug to cure the symptoms instead of trying to find the underlying cause. That's why I started to do my own research.

What's real strange is that I've an identical twin brother whom has had zero symptoms of any autoimmune diseases. I've also had mild vitiligo years ago, but nothing super noticeable. My twin brother has never had any symptoms and lives a much unhealthier lifestyle than I do (he drinks and smokes a lot, and is like 60lbs overweight). That's life!

Exactly at first I was pisses because I live a pretty healthy lifestyle yet my buddies who drink every weekend and eat like **** are completely fine. I learned to just accept it and not dread about it. A lot worse things could happen to me and I'm thankful for that.

Thanks brother. I learned that life is tough and something as trivial as this shouldn't define me as a person. I hated myself when this first started and just wanted an answer but that just made me become depressed and angry for no reason.

Pretty crazy what a week will do. I've been quarantined from work for the past 14 days and haven't shaved. Surprisingly I'm getting some facial hair back. Looks like this thing is truly reversing. My eyebrow hairs are coming in strong too.
