Coming from a family with a step dad..
I would say like most others,
Dont hook up with a chick with kids if you cant treat them like your own,
Dont hook up with one if you cant take the good with the bad.

Once I break up with anyone I’m 100% NC. Told her before if we broke up she’d never hear from me again. Other than all the pictures I had to delete, I felt a huge burden lifted off of me. Her mom basically ruined any chance of her finding happiness because it’s never going to be enough.

some people can be step-dad's, it looks like you can't. I would expect the mother and child to do things like that, especially since xmas lights and pictures are something more special to children. You'd think there'd be a lot of times where it's just the two of you and someone watches the kid while you go out like normal parents. Ah well, maybe just find a girl without kids next time.

Op, you set her up to be more attentive to her next date. The next guy should thank you.

Regardless I think you did the right thing if you were not ok with the kid. But if you are ok with the kid then maybe you should give it another try.

At the end of the day, if you don't enjoy spending time with the kid as well as the mum, you're wasting everyone's time.

Consider how the outing would go if it were a family trip. Maybe the dad takes a few pictures of mum & kid together, or the kid takes a picture of mum & dad. Maybe the parents stop for a coffee and get the kid a hot chocolate or orange juice or something. The point is... you're doing the activity as a group. Not 'mum spends x amount of time on dad and y amount on kid'.

Once you understand this and can get on board with it, you can have a relationship with a single parent. Otherwise, ultimately someone always ends up getting hurt. No matter how good the intentions on either side, or how well 'balanced' their attention is.

With the whole whore culture in 2019, I'm surprise that there are still men like OP who's even willing to entertain these single mothers. I wouldnt even fuk them raw, much less for go on a date with her and her kid. That's cuck chit if you ask me.

Last night was the final straw as I found myself walking around the botanical gardens lights by myself as her kid kept being obsessed with having her picture taken every 10 feet in front of every light display. I just wanted to walk around and enjoy the moment and all they did was take pictures of each other. And her kid spilled at dinner and basically hogged all the attention all night. I know time heals all wounds but this one hurts brahs.

OP brokeup with an otherwise perfect girl because she has a 5 year old that hogs all the attention
if it was your own kid, the same thing would be happening. youre always gonna be second to womans kid, even when its your kid.

Ya buts it's still your kid so it's like you are part of the picture. If your child is being annoying and needy then it's you as the father to help fix the issue, not just the mother's problem. In OP's case, he has no business saying anything to that kid like correcting the kid. That's not his place unless he really got himself into a fatherly role.

Imo this situation is not the same as of op was the father. This **** is totally different.

OP do yourself a favor and get you a chick who isn't a mom. Imo single moms are used goods.

I'm surprised and really appreciative of all the responses and support in this thread. Thank you even for the hate and snide comments.

This morning she's texted saying how much she had fallen for me and how hard this is and that I could've done things differently (always my fault, apparently) and that it didn't need to be this way, but that she understands I've decided she's not worth the risk and time. A lot of guilt tripping packed into one text, but I know she didn't mean it to be a guilt trip, but fukk it does suck.

Strong this LOL. Fathers have been bored and annoyed by the stupid chit young girls love since forever. Any male would be annoyed, but at least be mature enough to let the kid have her moment

This situation was so avoidable... how about you leaving the two of them together for the trip? Or letting the girl bring some friends so they could entertain each other?

Most guys I know get too much attention from their gfs and would love to have a decoy aka child that can put the focus away from them but to each their own

But if the child was an issue, better to end it sooner than later

IF the woman you dated would put a man ahead of her child could you rspect them? a womans kid should come first even if that kid is your own biological child.

if she is all you said op then you might have just made a huge mistake. good women are hard to find.

Gotta agree with Godfrey here, OP. If you were really into her like you said, you wouldn't have thrown in the towel. She didn't tell you to fukk off with that noise; she said she'd work on it. Obviously, you weren't willing to. Relationships take work, so maybe being in one isn't for you.

Thats one thing with single moms bro, they are never at fault, and they only admit it when there is absolutely nothing else they can say or do. Its always the parents, their ex, the child, you, etc. Its always the same ****. "Oh i did this but its only because YOU..."

And you have to realize that that is her at her absolute BEST behavior, single mom trying to keep a guy around? Yeah shes going to be the perfect GF all right, because deep inside she knows she has to compensate. Once she has you wrapped around her finger that will change.
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Good luck.
I don't know what all of your life experiences are, but when you're a parent with a young child like 5 and under that kid is going to get at least 75% of the attention. And that's when both biological parents are together with the kid at one time. Literally everything else in life ends up on the backburner by comparison. That's simply because they are a lot needier than adults, which goes without saying. I can only imagine trying to be with a female who had some other guy's kid(s).

Also, typically, dating a "single father" wouldn't be the same for a woman as it is for a man dating a single mother. Single mothers typically have like 80% custody, and at least 50% unless they are absolutely wretched parents. A woman having to deal with a single father's kid(s) once every weekend or less isn't the same as dealing with it 80% of the time.

Fuking this, unless OP's demands are infrequent.
Otherwise she's ignoring her kid to fuk you, but won't ignore her kid when you guys go out, which means you are boring when you guys go out, and likely didn't pay much attention to her kid.

Can't date a single mom with a young child on a serious level if you aren't willing to step in as a father "figure".

Lesson learned OP. Smash single moms, do not date.

she made a huge mistake having a kid with a loser. Women should be very careful to pick a stable mate. That kid will be her downfall time and time again. Kids are one thing (still a deal breaker) but her kid is a huge attention whore from your posts. That kid clearly is used to her mom being alone. The mom needs to teach her kid to stop being selfish.
