Iran plane crash: Ukraine refuses to rule out Boeing 737 was shot down by missile near Tehran killing 176

Ukraine's foreign ministry confirmed that everyone aboard the Boeing 737-800 flown by Ukraine International Airlines was killed after it came down shortly after it departed from Imam Khomeini International Airport in the Iranian capital of Tehran. There were three British people on board, as well as citizens from six other countries, according to the Ukraine's Minister for Foreign Affairs Vadym Prystaiko.

Asked at a briefing in Kyiv if the plane could have been downed by a missile, Ukraine's Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk refused to rule it out, but cautioned against speculation until the investigation concluded. Initially, Ukraine's embassy in Iran said on Wednesday morning that engine failure caused the plane to crash and denied that it was terror-related or that a rocket had hit the aircraft.

But it later withdrew this statement, saying that anything was possible, and Mr Zelensky instructed Ukraine's prosecutors to open criminal proceedings over the crash.

This, and the previous 737 variants have proven top-tier safety records. They're also some of the most common commercial aircraft, so of course it's more likely they'll be involved in incidents purely because of the sheer number of them in operation

One set of statistics has the 737-700 / 800 / 900 models at 0.06 fatal crashes per million flights, so we're talking almost 17million flights to produce a single fatal crash. Those are odds I'll gladly take

Doubt this was deliberate at all as the majority of the passengers were iranian themselves.. and even if not given the circumstances i doubt iran would be stupid enough to kill innocents that are not even related to US on their own soil risking the plane to crash in the city creating more damage...

Truth is we may never know .. Could be a mistake from anti missiles, could be an actual mechanical failure etc...

The US already knows if this was shot down or not. You think during an active conflict where dozens of missiles were fired hours earlier that radars/satellites arenโ€™t dialed in picking up heat signatures?

Iranian officials said technical issues were behind the Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) crash, which happened shortly after take-off from Imam Khomeini International Airport on Wednesday morning, killing all 176 people on board.

The Ukrainian embassy in Tehran initially echoed this stance, but later retracted its statement, and instead said it was for an official commission to determine the cause of the accident.

While some aviation experts said it was too early to speculate, the OPS group, an aviation risk monitoring group, said: โ€œWe would recommend the starting assumption to be that this was a shootdown event, similar to MH17 โ€“ until there is clear evidence to the contrary," highlighting photos of the crash site which they said "show obvious projectile holes in the fuselage and a wing section."

LMAO @ all the 20 iq dogs in here thinking it was actually caused by a technical failure. You can clearly see if you look up the pictures of the remains, fragmentation damage on the scattered aircraft parts = frag from a surface to air missile warhead which are DESIGNED to explode before impact. The frag from the missle burst the fuel tanks everywhere on the airplane which caused it to be engulfed in fire.

I feel sorry for all of you reading CNN and legit believing what they're writing...
