I've been around dogs my whole life. Used to climb in their kennels when I was little and sleep with them. Hell even got rushed to the hospital for taking a whole bottle of heart worm pills at 4. I love them.

But there's a line.
i mean...this sounds like the dog was pretty aggressive with the bite, not just a quick snap. sounds like he grabbed tight and shook...care to elaborate on the circumstances in which this happened? if not no worries.

in that scenario I totally understand. But the way you and clydesdale were talking before made it sound like bite = dead dog, no if's and's or but's about it

I want my dog being protective. The fuk is the point if theyre not. I dont want them biting randomly but i also dont want them so docile they cant tell when an intruder is coming in. My dog lasted 18 years this way

And, a dog > than everything but my kid. Maybe my wife. But maybe she was also stupid. Have to hear the story

Oh and the dog looks emaciated and hungry with a poor coat in the first pic. Seems like hes prob overly aggressive at that point

I wasn't there. He was at my ex wife's friends house who was babysitting him.

He was always good and gentle to dogs.

All he could remember is that he was sitting on the couch watching spongebob. Then he said next thing he remembered was the dog on top of him.

Then she heard him screaming from the kitchen and came in to find him bleeding with the dog on top of him.

His skull was exposed and she thought his eye was gone.

She pulled off the dog and got him to the hospital told her husband you get the sheriff and you kill that motherphucker I don't want to see him when I get home.

I didn't get notified till my son was in surgery.

They kept me out of the loop so I wouldn't flip that switch.

Didn't mean to imply in any way that your son deserved it btw, in case you might have thought i was saying so. No dog should ever be left alone with a toddler/child, docile or not. I'm extremely sorry that you had to deal with that.

yeah - so mistreated or driven out of its mind to perform. an acquaintance of mine trains Schutzhund GSDs. They are honed to a fine weapon. A few months ago, one of them snapped and attacked his son (fully grown son) and about tore his arm off. I would not want such a dog for sure.

nice but really bad idea, as I'm sure you found out. My cousin had one of those and it was a POS, she never trained it or tried to establish boundaries so she had this dog with a ton of emotional issue and baggage that was completely unsuitable as a pet that kept biting people. She had her kid around it too, crazy.

It sounds bad but I would never have a dog I didn't raise from a little puppy, unless it was a really little dog that couldn't do any damage

My boys parents were both Schutzhunds and his dad was as big a goof as he is. I never got him into it because honestly I just don't have the time but there are ipo/schz 3's that are absolute cuddle bunnies (and they're trained to an insane level so they're the last dogs to ever fear bite or snap) In Germany they have to pass tempament tests to even breed rotties/gsd etc but obviously we don't do that here in america

This is one of the very few times in 15 years that I didn't break down crying talking about it.

I came home from work and the Male owner had a message on the machine that there had been a "little incident". And not to worry.

So then I started calling around and found out what happened. By the time I got there he was heading home.

My ex kept me out of it because she thought something bad would happen.

I got there took him and held him in my arms for the vast majority of the night.

I will never forget looking down at him and wanting to trade places with him. Wanting to take away his pain.

I've never felt more helpless in my life.

Thanks. Fortunately my son has no lasting effects from it.

He loves dogs plays with them. Has a good self image and has sloots sending him snaps 24/7.

He also got enough money to pay for college and have some left over.

Now if I could get him to stop banging long enough to make some grades.....

german shepards are working dogs and require a lot of attention and training. you cannot just let it rot around the house like a lap dog.

If you ever seen someone own a german shepard that they didnt take the time to train, its very sad. barking all the time and going crazy and chit.

Of the various mutts and lap dogs that my family and friends had, never had one that snapped at me, growled at me or bit me. You shouldnt get that from your own dog. But for a working dog they probably didnt train then not surprised.

i had a medium sized dog once that when you come home shed put her paws up on your legs for you go give her a hug. the dog loved it. But smothering a dog, forcing them to get hugged is dumb and stupid, you just have to play it by ear

This is so true. I know someone who got a GSD and never trained her or worked her. She was definitely crazy and she'd growl at people. Don't think she ever bit anyone but she'd snap. Really sad tbh. GSD's need brain work and lots of exercise. They're not for the normal dog owner.

I know a few people who have been beaten by their dogs,1 of them almost lost his eye. I am very paranoid, main reason I've never head a pet.
