The goal is herd immunity, as fast as we can without overhwelming the medical system.

People seem to think if we stop locking ourselves up, only the people with Corona will die. No, all cause mortalities will go way up because 1) people entering the hospital for non COVID ailments will not have bed space for treatments that could cure them, they die and 2) Hospitals become a breeding ground for COVID, causing people with these non COVID ailments to contract COVID in the hospital and 3)a lack of medical personall due to them getting sick from the virus

So these measures are there to promote herd immunity, just at a sustainable rate so the basic tenants of healthcare dont come tumbling down. The entire plan as of now is herd immunity without collapsing society. People just dont get that because if they came out and said that word for word people would lose their ****

Odds are we all will get this virus at some point, many will die, as they do from the flu, but it will hopefully be at a constant rate at some point where it is acceptable. As it exponentially grows, we see it as something not acceptable.

maybe i'm not understanding this herd immunity correctly.if you don't have a vaccine, how do you achieve herd immunity?

every person not immune will just clog the healthcare system and die...even if 95% of people develop only mild symptoms, you are basically telling the other 5% who are at risk to go kick rocks and die...

quarantining will help spread out the amount of people needing urgent care all at once. whereas herd immunity is guaranteeing the 5% will go straight to the hospital and then the morgue.

You answered your own question

The virus isnt going away. The social distancing and quarantine is herd immunity in a sustainable manner. A large chunk of us will get it, spread over a long period of time, and hopefully develop immunity. At some point, the virus cannot sustain the rate of infection because it cant use the immune to propogate. Slowly it burns out. Thats herd immunity.

Yes people will die. We will attempt to treat them the best we can with the resources we have. By engaging in the shut downs now, we hopefully will have more resources available in the future, better treatment protocols, a head start on a few trial vaccines, etc.

You heard of vaccination?

Flu shot?
Flu jab?

You can train your immune system against influenza. There is no vaccination yet available against this new virus.

You will see more than 60000 deaths from Covid-19 in the US before May this year.
And that is WITH treatment and lockdown attempts.
Cycling, walking, swimming.

the flu is such a rapidly moving target and the manufacturing/approval process is so long that a truly efficacious flu shot is impossible

i'm certain the same goes for covid-19.

is there a SARS or MERS vaccine after all these years?

Srs question btw, I'm not being sarcastic.
Of course they did, but worrying about the economy doesn't get you as many political browny points as worrying about public health. 90% of people don't understand how the economy works, but everyone understands that they can get sick. There's way more pressure from the public worrying about health than their economic futures, even if the latter might have more severe concequences.

They stopped worrying about creating a vaccine because they already eradicated those viruses.

I think the number one goal of any DC politician right now is how any decision they make will effect the votes. I think what is best for the country and what is best for humans is taking a back seat. I think its VERY evident that votes, political power, and money are the main drive based on where the bailout money has gone. They have given a crumb to the working class Americans knowing they will be happy with their $1200, meanwhile they are giving massive chunks to the Wealthy classes and no one is going to say anything because they got free money. In simple terms its like a company giving all its workers a 5% raise, meanwhile giving the executives a 20% raise and buying their friends new vehicles and their wife a new car and jewelry and their children college funds. Meanwhile, the business itself is likely going to be taking a hit and the executives and leader just planned on cutting 15% of the employees to make up for it so they can keep their salaries and they will just hire more when the company bounces back.

So what I am saying is the governement has decided to spread the wealth to non producing companies because they are the "executives" that make the current government have their power and seat, meanwhile giving all the workers(the US citizens) a little bit of cash to keep them quiet and blind, knowing that it will create a HUGE lay off creating greatly negative consequences for many people but at least them and their buddies will get to stay in their comfortable bubble.

Thats the reason for the lockdown. To milk this out as long as humanly possible.

Look around at the draconian power grab cities and states are doing. Its all a bunch of crap and we know it.

I hate when I have to defend that the government isnt behind some massive conspiracy to take control and using corona virus to take control of everything, because I don't think that that is the case, but I also think the government is still just as much pieces of shyt because their REACTION to this is still only self interest, as exhibited by almost every decision they have made. Thats not saying anything about the specific characteristics of this virus or how "bad" it really is, because I dont think the government really cares anyway lol.

I will be VERY interested to see what happens starting in December when they have to clean up the mess and its not for votes.

you are correct in what you're saying
but the problem now is that we are creating an economic disaster that will take years to recover from'

when we reopen in 3 weeks there will undoubtedly be a second wave and we will be back to the same situation.

the only viable situation for this was to simply selectively accept patients that should be allowed to surveve and send everybody else with the virus home

this economic depression will end up causing more in every aspect and in death included
