There are 2 reasons for quarantine.

1) "flatten the curve". 3-6 weeks.

We were told 1), but now that we've complied, the media and much of the bureaucracy is acting like we agreed to 2). We didn't. We wouldn't. We've done 1), now we're ready to move to 3).

3) "develop herd immunity". up to 18 months. People at risk, continue rigorous quarantine protocol. Everyone else gets back to work wearing masks with social distancing and other common sense precautions.

It's inevitable that cases will spike again as we enter 3), but the alternative of staying indoors indefinitely while our small businesses and paycheck-to-paycheck households are ruined and China exploits our economic absence is unacceptable.

I'm guessing you're close to the age of retirement and could care less about ever going back to work.

I'm 28 and would rather live my life getting back to work and make money so I can acquire what you already have. I don't want to sit around playing video games and miscing all day everyday.

It's not only economic damage but civil liberties. There have been people cuffed for violating social distancing.

Not to mention that this becomes the response to any outbreak in the future.

Because they're carriers. Diseases get spread quickly in school because kids are messy, schools are crowded, and classrooms are tightly packed. Parents and teachers get sick because of kids all the time. Some dumbfuk, asymptomatic kid will inevitably give grandma a kiss, and then bye bye grandma.

This is in part how South Korea got it under control, but a big difference is that they started early. They also tracked people who were infected as well as those who were contacted by the infected. Tracking would never fly in this country, and with good reason.

As for China exploiting our economic weaknesses, I don't think that's something to worry about. Despite their "official" numbers, they were hit just as hard if not harder. They're very dependent on rapid economic growth, and this is the first year in a very long time that their economy is contracting. While the US will be weaker after this, the same will be true of the whole world, so relatively speaking I don't think the balance will be shifted too much. In fact, the dollar has become stronger.

I agree that we'll have to open eventually because the social unrest will get to a boiling point, but we're all flying blind here. We don't really know what the consequences will be.

Sweden is not doing the lockdown or isolation thing and their numbers are better than most of Europe.

Quarantine is kind of nice tbh srs. On one hand, it kind of sucks that I can't go to the store, but I always bought most of my stuff online anyway (outside of food). I'm also an introvert by nature and now I have an excuse not to attend social gatherings or feel obligated to go hang out with people. #winning

That's because their population density is much lower than most of Europe, basically around the same as a rural US state. It has roughly the population of North Carolina while having a much lower population density (213 vs 64 people per square mile), but Sweden has a much higher infection rate and roughly 8-9 times the number of deaths.

And 50% of households are 1 person households in Sweden, less chance to spread

You and I are technically obese (per our BMI) and our mortality rate is 2-3x higher what it would normally be

Lockdowns will be lifted in summer, you’ll be given a taste of sweet freedom again, and then when the virus comes back lockdowns will once again be implemented. Only it’ll be for a longer period (Oct - April).
