Quite a few. Pretty much Major and up in the military.

Only reason why I hit it as a Captain was because of flight pay and that sweet sweet ass “OE” pay.

Essentially additional compensation for my time as an enlisted member prior to commissioning.

BRB lease a luxury vehicle
BRB latest iphone each year
BRB eat out at restaurants every week

Durrrr $100k is the new $50k durrrr
10% savings isn't impressive at all, bruh. If you max out your 401k and rent a decent 1BDR, that $100K salary gets eaten up pretty quickly.

Only person I know making that is in the NFL and he's not even a starter. I don't see how people make 6 figures and just live a day to day to life. Like you'd have to be somewhat of a public figure if you're making that regularly right?

Edit: I guess I was thinking more close to a million. I know a lot of people barely breaking 100k
if you ain't got no money, this is about to be a real short conversation, you dig?

Yea, exactly. What's really interesting is that the 50 percentile stays pretty close regardless of age. 50 percenter at 29 is $40k..... at 51, it's $50k.

also know someone who will be graduating from dentistry soon at 26 years old and will likely make over 100k right out the gate.

keep in mind that's in poverty canadian dollars and we get taxed out the azz (52% total income taxes in my province if making over 150k, plus higher sales taxes)

Out of my immediate good group of friends? Lets say out of like 10 of the closest...

6 of them + me are all doing 100k+

We're all 28-33.


If I were to expand that to the next kind of grouping of friends but not as close, the number definitely drops down significantly. We all live in a city of about 210k people, with a major metropolitan city within 30 minutes of us.


Your friend groups start to kind of group together and income tends to be a part of that grouping just because you'll end up spending more time with people that can afford to do things and not think twice.

I work in oil and gas in the UK and know many people who make 100K a year. Which is very impressive given the UK salaries are so low. I make $62k a year which is pretty good here.

I remember years ago someone from australia said a really lowly job here, i cant remember which job it was that was mentioned, but i remember it making like 80k lol

Apparently the national hourly minimum wage in australia is 19.49/ hour

Yeah Fort Mac is the center of Alberta oil country. Basic wages are good and a large chunk of the population works at nearby oil production plants where all jobs pay extremely well

I do, just barely at the 100k mark.

Maybe one of my friends makes this much as well but I can't confirm.

My brother has had years where he's made 100k (he's in sales) but I don't know what he's making on average now. I know he took a different sales job that had less volatility but a more consistent base so I'm guessing his good years aren't as good as they used to be, but he's more stable.

Yeah exchange rates matter





If you’re converting all your income into another currency and then are making purchases in that country. You don’t buy goods in moose dollars and we don’t buy things in freedom bucks. Purchasing Power Parity is what matters when comparing buying power across the world, and buying power can vary hugely even within countries. $100k is a lot more in small town US than in NYC.

Australia’s currency is particularly undervalued, but Canada has a solid PPP:exchange rate ratio. Goods and such here don’t cost anywhere near what the exchange rates might suggest

I know about 4. Three are nuclear operators as I live near a plant and the other does some kind of high level server rollouts for large companies. But 100k just aint that much nowadays which is crazy to think when housing and everything costs so much.

Well we’ve had nearly 20 years of very high migration of mostly low paid people. So not only has the price of labour gone down, the price of housing and pressure on public services has gone up.
