So I got sent home today because someone I work closely with (let’s say bob) was with someone 6 days ago that got a positive test today. So Bob tested today. I’m home 2-3 day until bobs test come back. If bobs test come back positive, do I just test and if I’m negative go back to work? Or do I have to do 14 days?

Unfortunately if bob comes back as positive you should isolate for 14 days even if your test is negative, and have a repeat test on day 14. Reason being is the incubation period of the virus means you might not test positive in the early stages and you need a repeat on the 14th day to make sure you truly don't have it

Are you referring to HCQ trials and what trump said?

Nothing really stays secret for long these days with whistleblowers and all, so I'd like to think that if there was some political agenda then it would be called out. I mean none of us will ever really no with absolute 100% certainty, but I trust in the science and hope it isn't turned into a political football.

Is the gym a high-risk environment even if you wear a mask? And if you don't wear gloves, is there any way it can be transmitted through touch (tight grip on dumbbell)?

Possibly a compensatory reaction to the fact that men have traditionally dominated medicine, or maybe girls just have more education opportunities now idk. In Australia it's probably split 45/55 M:F but that's just a guess

It's a decently high risk environment just because everyone is touching sh*t with their hands. And the average person has terrible hygiene. If you wear a mask though you will go a long way to reducing your risk. And frequently washing your hands before you touch your face. If you don't have gloves and you touch something that someone else carrying covid has touched then yeah you can catch it. Hence why washing your hands is important

Theres probably some truth to that lol. You can work half as hard and earn just as much in some careers such as CS. But the enjoyment you get out of work is a bigger consideration I think which is why I couldn't do CS

But it's not the touching that causes the transmission right? Isn't it only if you touch your eye, mouth, etc. Say if you touch a bunch of weights/machines but you make sure to wash your hands before eating or rubbing your eye, that would negate the risk right?

why has there been so much talk about vaccine but so little attention being given to taking preventive measures to avoid a serious case?

Seems very intuitive to me that if the virus is most severe in those with restricted blood flow and oxygen delivery such as those with CVD, that there'd be a push to be more active to increase delivery. But instead the exact opposite is happening and those in charge are encouraging people to worsen their condition by staying inside and doing less physical activity than before

Correct. Getting it on your skin won't transmit the virus , it needs a port of entry to infect you

1. Im from Australia brah so can only give you my experience here where it currently is flu season. Because of lock downs, masks etc its actually been quite a good flu season. It's really mainly covid

2. All the boring ass sh*t that everyone knows but no one wants to do - eat healthy, exercise, stop smoking, lose weight if you're overweight, diabetic etc. Simple things that go a long way

Do you think the reaction to covid (stay at home and business shutdown orders) are proportional to the danger covid presents?

Imo locking down nursing homes, wearing masks in public, and telling old people to quarantine would be sufficient.

I get what you're trying to say. In an ideal world there would be less people who were obese, who smoked and who took preventative measures to keep their health in check etc. But that's not the world we live in. Allowing people out of their homes doesn't guarantee that they will start becoming active and living healthier (and lets be honest they probably won't), so a push to increase the activity levels of people who aren't very healthy to begin with, when there's a pandemic going on, probably wouldn't get the best uptake by the general population. Longer term sure it'd be great, but I'd say doing during a pandemic won't go very far as a lot of the damage is already done

Internal med currently then aiming to specialise in gastroenterology. After taxes ~110k, once I have a practice in gastro though should be closer to 400k (hopefully)

Ah man too many factors.
Ethnicity, access to health care, age of the population (Italy for example has an old population and got romped by the virus at the start), smoking rates, prevalence of chronic health conditions such as CVD, emphysema, diabetes. Its impossible to attribute differences in mortality rate to a single thing. There's probably 10-20 small parts each playing their own part

What are your thoughts on the data used in the Lancet and NEJM studies being put into question? The lancet study that said hcq was ineffective was retracted as well as the the NEJM one considering they used the same pool of data.

no personal offense to you, but i simply dont trust those in the research medical field right now. there has been endless politicization.

we know for a fact that many high profile people with COVID have recovered with HCQ. Example are Tom Hanks, Chris Cuomo, Karen Whitsett, and others.

How exactly are you a doctor at 29? Are you a licensed MD that's completed residency in a hospital? Best case scenario you've been in practice 1 maybe 2 years.
