This. All I ever see is the sneeze test as proof and claim "science"

The truth is science at this point are just educated guesses. I don't think they've been right about anything. I think we are in the start of a much bigger wave. Combine that with the flu and its going to be devastating. And all you masks aren't going to save anyone.

The general consensus is that any barrier between you and the rona will help somewhat. But of course, masks that are designed to filter out smaller particles will work better.

I haven't bothered posting ITT because it seems that most people have made up their minds already one way or the other.

We don't have reproduce-able randomized blind study result about transmission of the virus and masks because I believe such a study on humans would be considered unethical.

We do have multiple studies (an one big overview of same) with data that is termed "low reliability"becausethe studies don't meet that standard and are reliant on the recall of the participants which is fallible.
In lieu of having substantial experience with the virus from which to draw, researchers looked at 172 studies from 16 countries describing transmission scenarios for the virus that causes COVID-19 as well as related coronaviruses SARS and MERS.

The study's authors emphasized that social distancing and wearing face coverings aren't 100% effective, meaning people still should wash their hands frequently. The study, which the authors noted was limited by the inclusion of some "low-certainty" evidence, still corroborated CDC guidelines overall.
A review of at least 172 studies on SARS, MERS, and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, found transmission of viruses was lower with physical distancing of more than about 3 feet versus less than about 3 feet, reported Holger J Schünemann, MD, of McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and colleagues of the COVID-19 Systematic Urgent Review Effort.

Both face masks and eye protection could be associated with reduction in risk of infection, although the evidence for both was "low certainty," the authors wrote in the Lancet.

Notably, they added there have been no randomized trials for COVID-19 about the effectiveness of these interventions, nor were any randomized trials included in this analysis.

The study:
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...142-9/fulltext

China did a study using hamsters if you want to check that out:

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/19/coro...dy-claims.html
Experiments by a team in Hong Kong found that the coronavirus’ transmission rate via respiratory droplets or airborne particles dropped by as much as 75% when surgical masks were used.

“The findings implied to the world and the public is that the effectiveness of mask-wearing against the coronavirus pandemic is huge,” Dr. Yuen Kwok-yung, a leading microbiologist from Hong Kong University who helped discover the SARS virus in 2003, said Sunday.

The study, which the Hong Kong team calls the first of its kind, used hamsters in two cages; one group of hamsters infected with Covid-19 and the other healthy. The researchers created three different scenarios: mask barriers placed just on cages with the infected subjects, masks covering the healthy subjects, and one with no mask barriers at all, with a fan between the cages allowing particles to be transmitted between them.

With no mask barriers at all, two-thirds of the healthy hamsters — 66.7% — were infected with the virus within a week, the researchers found.

When the mask was placed over the infected cage, however, that infection rate dropped to 16.7%.

The infection rate went up to 33% when the mask barrier was only used to cover the healthy hamsters’ cage.

The hamsters who were still infected despite having the mask barrier also had less of the virus in their bodies compared to those infected without the masks, the researchers found.
The quality of the mask you wear does make a difference and not all masks are equally helpful in slowing transmission. The general idea seems to be that healthcare workers should get the best masks while the rest of us do the best we can.
Conclusions
The filtration, effectiveness, fit, and performance of cloth masks are inferior to those of medical masks and respirators. Cloth mask use should not be mandated for healthcare workers, who should as a priority be provided proper respiratory protection. Cloth masks are a more suitable option for community use when medical masks are unavailable. Protection provided by cloth masks may be improved by selecting appropriate material, increasing the number of mask layers, and using those with a design that provides filtration and fit. Cloth masks should be washed daily and after high-exposure use by using soap and water or other appropriate methods.

Your analogy is wrong.

Guy is not allowed to own seat belt because those are reserved for more important people. He's told to make his own out of masking tape and paper towels. He does so. It looks like a seat belt, but it isn't. It'll rip on impact and provide no protection whatsoever.

That was only after they found out they dont do shi+ to protect yourself.

So tell me, why are masks more effective at protecting others than protecting yourself? Are fabrics better at filtraion under positive pressure vs negative? I don't think so. Its the same piece of cloth

So when you go into a doctors office and they put on gloves and masks its to protect the patient?

Not sure if you follow the news for the past 6 months or know how to read. But its kind of been said maybe 3 billion times that the mask does not protect the wearer as much as it protects others from you. So while I applaud you for wearing a mask, clearly others who dont adhere to that are the ones who got you sick OP.

dumbass.....The mask prevents the wearer from propelling droplets out of their mouth when they sneeze or cough. Some still get out but most are blocked. But the ones that do get out dont get propelled as far as they would if you werent wering a mask.
As far as protecting yourself, if others around you aren't wearing a mask and propelling their droplets all around, you can easily breathe them in even thou you are wearing a mask. Depending on the type of mask you wear, some offer a little more protection to the wearer than others, but none are fool proof to the wearer

There is no place in America right now you cant buy surgical masks.

But it would be helpful if you share your experience with anyone you know that denies the virus exists.
