Nothing more cringe than seeing a high end luxury car in an apartment complex or lower middle class suburb.
Why does he need a nice house to own a $70k car? What if he's happy with the 3 bedroom 2 bath and finished basement with the big backyard? Most NICE homes are cookie cutter crap anyway.

Just admit you're a hater

If you pay cash for a car with today's interest rates you're an idiot.

Invest the cash, borrow the money for the car.

Taking all your cash and dumping it in a car is stupid. If you have an emergency and need some money you don't have any. You have to sell the car or borrow. If you had invested the cash you can just pull out what you need.
you're missing the point of the statement.

If you don't have more cash in investments than debt, and outpacing their interest rate, then you can't afford it.

technically youre right, but people have income and dont rely solely on investment returns to cover their debt payments.

op said him and his wife clear 200k annually.. i think thats more than enough for him to comfortably take a 40k car loan on.

Most of you are going full blown retarded. OP is 47. He's got more than enough experience and wisdom to know right from wrong. Give it a break.
