Porn is awful and it is terrible that it is accepted with hardly any push back, but I don't support banning it at all. The only legitimate use of government power is stopping violations of individual rights, which doesn't occur in porn. It is not the government's role to force people to be moral. Virtue must be something people choose. Those of us who know how evil porn is have to do a better job of convincing people why it's so bad. That's not an impossible task. The rise of nofap shows that lots of people have figured out how much damage the modern approach to sex causes.

Secondly, from a practical standpoint, banning porn is completely unrealistic. First there is the problem that not more than 5% of the population would support it. Then there's the fact that banning porn in the age of the internet is impossible. You could stop porn no more than you could stop people from pirating movies and video games. Professional porn might get shut down but the amateur stuff and porn from other countries would still exist. I still wouldn't support banning porn even if were practically possible, but those who would support it should at least recognize that what they support is impossible.

It is bad but we have no right to dictate what people want to do in the privacy of their own place. You start making porn illegal and you go down a slope of banning other things you might thing is bad. Video games, drinking, smoking, etc. Where would it stop?

I get that - and I think there is a level of benefit for kids to go find and do something their parents don't let them do within reason. It's part of growing up. Honestly, i don't know how a kid could be accessing porn to such a level it is doing harm outside of their own home - with the exception of on their phone - but you should be able to monitor that as the parent. Like I saw some playboys at my friends and we would descramble cinemax back in the day - but other than a sleepover I don't know how they would get sufficient access and I think it would be pretty obvious to the parents that something is changing with their kid.

David Cameron tried initiating something similar over here. It is basically totally unenforceable.

Are you guys aware of how close the porn industry was to being shut down completely in the 80s?

It was all over, I think her name was Tracii Lords - essentially she made a career's worth of porn while underage. Turned 18 and produced her own movie starring herself and then announcing she was underage in all the others - making them deemed child porn. the only reason the industry wasn't shut down in court, they showed that the government issued her a passport with her fake birthday and if the government was fooled by her, you can't hold the industry to a higher standard for verification.

Granted the industry is completely different now than then. As someone said the amateur stuff has taken a a huge chunk of it and not just the onlyfans stuff - if you look at the top stars on PH there are amateurs in the top 20, if not top 10.

did I say it would just go away? Nor do I think we should even try it. It was just the point that the gov has lost to the porn industry once already.

Also there is so much nanny software out there I don't understand why the government would have to make it an opt in through the ISP when people can take a proactive approach

If you mean I implied it back in the day? Yes, it was that close to destroying the industry completely. I believe at the time it was not a global industry and somewhere are 98% was made in the states. And with the lack of technology back then when it was still being distributed on film or VHS and even the production equipment was not readily available....it was this close to being gone. It would have come back eventually but it would have taken some time. It did take a few years for the industry to recover as it is, and the dvd coming out was a large reason.

zero shame - I have to clean up post fap whether it is in a fleshlight, in my hand, on an old towel. Why would I be ashamed? I've had it or something similar for five years now, I've told every woman I dated in that timeframe that I had one and none of them are phased. Several were even, I don't want to say impressed but interested I guess since as I told them, I am not one to just run out and sleep with anyone, I might go a few months without sex so making jerking off more fun was great - and they thought that's a better character trait than sleeping around casually.

I'm thinking about this now cause it never even crossed my mind that I should be ashamed of it. My longterm gf and I broke up on a Monday and I bought the thing on Thursday as I was driving to Maine for a buddy's wedding and I thought I would at least have fun with it for the weekend and I told some friends that at the wedding. They weren't so common yet then and friends wanted reviews of it.

Also now I think of it I know two guys whose wives bought them for them. One was at the end of her pregnancy and had lost all sex drive and gave it to him half jokingly to leave her alone. The other was was dealing with losing her mom and was on anti-depressants and lost all sex drive and she got it for him sincerely cause she knew he was feeling neglected.
