Even fully qualified pilots make errors and crash. Even very experienced fully qualified pilots make errors and crash. If it was human error (which statistics suggest it is, but we shouldn’t even speculate until the investigation comes out), it doesn’t mean they were not fully qualified or “pushed through” in any way.

Multiple people.

Family members that were military aircrew.

My time in General Aviation

My time in the USAF around air crews.

I even lost a family member who turned away from a house that was at 1 o'clock off the extended runway.

So I've heard it from a lot of Aviators.

Plenty of Male students make mistakes.

Hell I was recently at the site where the Male Blue Angel pilot crashed in Tennessee.

Or how about the B52 pilot that took down his whole crew that had a history of being reckless and playing loose with rules and procedures only to keep getting a pass?

A little perspective.



Literally every administrative action taken prior to a military aircraft launching is specifically designed for the legal investigation following a crash. These pilots records will be reviewed. There was a risk assessment where a certified mission briefer, and approval authority (usually a commander) were both briefed on, and subsequently approved every single aspect of this mission. There is absolutely zero chance that these pilots were not categorically qualified to conduct this mission. Zero chance. This mission was analyzed by many qualified people before even getting approval to take off. These people did this with an in depth understanding of military and civilian flight regulations, that specific aircraft, recent maintenance done it, the two pilots, etc.


All of this work is done for every single flight because there will be a crash, and the military is showing it wasn’t because of a lack of training or anything.

Yeah. Like literally almost every other human error accident (of which there are many), involved males. Then this one pops up and “they crashed because they were female”.

Oh good for a moment there I thought maybe pilots in the military were fallible. Good to know mistakes are never made and that people don't slip through the cracks. I mean certainly that's never happened before in the history of military aviation.

I am admittedly ignorant about the navy flight training program, but I agree that she probably had a few hours under her belt. However, when I went to flight school, we did fly over residential areas. That doesn’t make the risk any higher.

Operational pilots fly with instructor pilots all the time. She could have been a fully qualified pilot in command, with thousands of hours. The only reason I would say that isn’t the case is because she was in a trainer and not an operational aircraft. Maybe she was training to be an instructor pilot?
