FWIW I have seen a couple instances of adolescent girls wanting to transition because puberty sucks and really not much more than that. I don't know that I'd quite call that mental illness, but if there's a word for "puberty is hard and it seems easier to be a 12 year old boy than a 12 year old girl" it's probably that. Obviously that's not the case here, but I do agree that it's not always mental illness in every person who wants to transition.

The rush on the left to proclaim them "heroes" and then put them on hormones, makes it harder for them to just grow out of this phase, which never existed in previous generations anyway. A lady recently wrote a book about this phenomenon and was immediately de-platformed for doing so.

The reason I have heard for that is because the human brain is not developed totally. Same reason teens commit suicide, and experts say that three minutes later they would never have dreamed of doing it. A friend of mine has a daughter in highschool, and the cool thing now is to be a victim. Its like kids are trying to make it look like they are the worst off, or more downtrodden. To stand out, but not for how good they are, but how bad they have it... Trying to out victim each other. It trying to be an individual taken to the extreme.

Weirdness is rewarded.

When I was in school those kids were the ones we beat up. Now if you fit in, you are passed over socially.

I think with teenagers, sex changes and chit are the extreme end of the desire for attention driven by the inverse of the same social pressure that made the cool kids beat up on the losers in my day.

However they have NO IDEA what these adolescent whims mean in the long run.

Yes I've read the book and seen her speak several times, I'm a huge fan of her work and recommend the book to everyone.

Back in my day we just made peer-group competitions around disordered eating, and I think she wrote about that, too.
