I don’t think I’ve ever listened to that album. I know K-Dee through his guest appearances, and would recognize that voice anywhere. I see Ass, Gas or Cash was his only album, I wonder what happened to him.
I will check it out.

It was a shame what they did to Mega. I like Nature, but they did him dirty. Cormega talks about it on ‘Love in Love out’ – from his album ‘The true meaning’ (2002)

It’s one of my favourite Luda tracks too. Jazze is underrated I feel, even did some great work for Ciara.

I’ve got to give it to Alchemist on this one.
That kick drum, the bass line behind this strings and the vocal sample hnngg, not to mention Babu’s scratching.

I'm more of a 90s east coast connaisseur but Spice 1 is probably my favourite and most underrated rapper at the time. This one is my favourite song from him, isn't your typical gangsta rap chit even for that time.

don't think you can talk about smooth west coast without Kurupt, DPGC, Nate Dogg. Of course the classic Warren G I think any west coast fan knows Regulate. Also, what's the west coast without Dr.Dre, this track is a master piece.

From Wikipedia:

"Be Thankful for What You Got" is a soul song written and first performed by William DeVaughn.

The record sold nearly two million copies on its release in spring of 1974, reaching #1 on the U.S. R&B charts and #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[2] With a sound and content influenced by Curtis Mayfield (and often erroneously attributed to him), its simple and encouraging lyrics hit home, to the extent that it became featured on gospel radio stations.

The song is noted for its repeated line: "Diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene, with a gangsta lean". The song has been misrepresented all over social media as a Curtis Mayfield song called" Diamond in the back".

This album was a big part of my life, and still is. If you guys haven’t listened to it I would highly recommend it. Also the Blackstar album, both classics

Plus Hi Tek’s beats are off the chain, this album is some of his best work

^ Man I used to listen to that album pretty heavily. DJ Hi Tek's beats are so good.

Love the Blackstar album and also consider Mos Def's first album a classic.

A new blackstar album has been recorded and is supposed to release soon.

Edit: Here's a west coast joint. I see kurupt and nate dogg mentioned up above. Here's one with both of them.

Nah brah, was unaware. All I know is that he spent some time in prison shortly after this video then when he went out his voice changed was not the same, rip career in hip hop music.

Last year spent a few months in Romania, didn't know anything about Romanian rap but was blown away by this group. quality/10

Das it mane, Times up was sampled in (at least) 75 songs, that’s HUGE.
https://www.whosampled.com/O.C./Time%27s-Up/sampled/

Did you get into Starchild? From memory it was released in 2005 on a Japanese label because he couldn’t clear the samples.

I think it was this one:

fav tracks from that were Ghetto Afterlife, Down for the Count, This Means You, Move Somethin

also can't mention Kweli without Mos Def, he's way overlooked when it comes to one of the greatest combinations of lyrics and flow from an artist

also Pharoahe Monch, one of my fav workout songs lol, the sample on this is just too dope
