I'm more of a 90s east coast connaisseur but Spice 1 is probably my favourite and most underrated rapper at the time. This one is my favourite song from him, isn't your typical gangsta rap chit even for that time.

"Be Thankful for What You Got" is a soul song written and first performed by William DeVaughn.
The record sold nearly two million copies on its release in spring of 1974, reaching #1 on the U.S. R&B charts and #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[2] With a sound and content influenced by Curtis Mayfield (and often erroneously attributed to him), its simple and encouraging lyrics hit home, to the extent that it became featured on gospel radio stations.
The song is noted for its repeated line: "Diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene, with a gangsta lean". The song has been misrepresented all over social media as a Curtis Mayfield song called" Diamond in the back".

This album was a big part of my life, and still is. If you guys haven’t listened to it I would highly recommend it. Also the Blackstar album, both classics

Plus Hi Tek’s beats are off the chain, this album is some of his best work

^ Man I used to listen to that album pretty heavily. DJ Hi Tek's beats are so good.
Love the Blackstar album and also consider Mos Def's first album a classic.
A new blackstar album has been recorded and is supposed to release soon.
Edit: Here's a west coast joint. I see kurupt and nate dogg mentioned up above. Here's one with both of them.

Das it mane, Times up was sampled in (at least) 75 songs, that’s HUGE.https://www.whosampled.com/O.C./Time%27s-Up/sampled/
Did you get into Starchild? From memory it was released in 2005 on a Japanese label because he couldn’t clear the samples.
I think it was this one:
