This is not a pump and dump. GME has a lot of institutional owners. In fact my country Norway owns 2,6% of GME. Gamestop was a decent company being driven to the brink of bankruptcy because of ******* hedge funds who shorted the chit out of it. A year ago it was trading at $4 while it had 5 billion in revenue. New consoles were coming out which always improves business by a huge margin.

What happened was some people like Michael Bury (Christian Bale from The Big Short) and some other smart folks saw GME as a deep value investment which was severely undervalued. Once this info along with the fact that GME was the most shorted company in the stock market became public knowledge because of a great investing redditor, this started to catch on. And then Ryan Cohen (made Chewy into a billion dollar company competing with Amazon) became a major shareholder and board member, everyone knew GME was pivoting and will be a major force to come in the coming years. There is huge potential in Gamestop and in light of these changes it was severely undervalued. Now the stock will be squeezed to infinity and beyond because shorters refuse to cover their shorts, they keep doubling down on it.

Shorting a company's stock doesn't make them bankrupt. A company goes bankrupt if they can't meet their debt and expense obligations.

No one really knows, but it depends on when the shorters fold. As of today 139% of the stocks were still shorted (Bloomberg), meaning the squeeze is not on as of yet. VW short squeeze in 2008 took a couple of months. What we are seeing now is a gamma squeeze, not a short squeeze.

When shorting a stock, how long do you have to buy back the shares? I guess there must be a time frame other wise people will just keep waiting?

Conflicted because I sold half my shares at 90 to secure the bag. If I had waited 2 hours, it went from 90 to 140+ JFL. Playing with house money now with the other half.

Not that simple. Forcing a companies value down can make borrowing more expensive (which nearly all companies do), force a rise in dividend (if fundamentals are good) put pressure on the board, other companies become reluctant to do business etc etc..

I’m broadly against shorting being legal

Not sure, but there's a daytrader status that requires $25,000 minimum in an account. Day trade status is trigged by 4 or more round trip trades (buy and sell or sell and buy) in a 5 day period. I don't know the exact details but pretty sure writing uncovered options (where you do not own the underlying stock) requires 25k. Sometimes just trading in options or shorting requires 25k, not sure. If you dip below $25k account value because your shorted stocks are surging, the broker does a "margin call" where they ask for funds to bring it back to legal status (by SEC/FINRA). If you can't satisfy the margin call, they force cell your assets until enough capital is raised. I had this happen in 2008 when I bought 1900 shares on margin in a bold but stupid move.

You are in fact a idiot if you sold yesterday at the dip. Shorters attacked and a lot of people fell for it and got scared. If you did your homework you would know GME is going to increase big time when the short squeeze is on

OK, so at what price might it be advisable to sell? Of course no one really knows, what do you think? It seems it might only have got started.

Based on my limited knowledge: Yes. But you don't want to be stuck holding the bag when those shorts run out.

No, it's that simple.

As a company, stop borrowing so much. Your business is selling shirts? Why the fuk are you borrowing $1B for?

In any case, it's not the 1970s anymore. Stocks that are unfairly valued low are few and far between and don't stay that way for long.

TLDR, hedge fund borrowed more shares than there is available (should be illegal) and redditors capitalized by not selling shares so fund can't cover their positions. Thus, they have to purchase at whatever price that redditors sell their shares at, assuming they start selling. That's why they say to hold till $1000

Redditors call those that sell before 1k paper handed, meaning they sell early. If a bunch of people start selling, HF can close out their positions earlier driving the float down and ergo the price. Its actually impressive that redditors are holding out as long but that's what happens when you have people that despise the rich. I doubt it'll even get to $1000 tho

Gamestop is actually a chit stock but that’s irrelevant for this pump

It’s gareented 99.999% to go up until the retarded boomer hedge fund goes bankrupt (like literally they will announce bankruptcy there is no other way)

After it goes bankrupt and after the price is pumped after bankruptcy is when you sell

It’s ganna crash after a 10x simply cause no one uses GameStop anymore lmao

Get ur 10x then get out

I wish I had robin hood to buy this but I need to take a pic of my sscard and waiting for a replacement one

Simply put the reason it’s pumping is cause rich man fuked up and backed himself into a corner and we profit on it
