I think most hunters get a sense of satisfaction when all the effort they put in pays off with an animal that will be the source of natural healthy meat for them and their families. I don't think it's really a feeling of "Yeah that was really awesome to just waste an animal for the hell of it!". At least not for the majority.

If you're talking about trophy hunting just to have the head mounted over your fireplace I'm not really in favor of that but even then if the meat doesn't get wasted it's not really any different. Even leaving the carcass in the wild, it will get eaten by other animals that would've otherwise had to kill a live one for food. Nature doesn't waste anything.

That’s a giant cougar, all the ones people catch on cam around here are usually pretty small.

Funny that Tennessee refuses to acknowledge that there’s a breeding population here because “oh it’s just the odd one migrating from the Midwest”

Other states plus morons losing pets= all these redneck’s dogs getting jacked on the regular if they keep them outside. I like the idea of having another cool predator that’s not bears running around tbh

Vs.? The states with the most deer don’t have mountain lions. You know there isn’t populations of lions in every state right? 50,000 very conservative number, and they’re on the rise in SD.


One lion eats a deer sized animal at least every 10 days. And they don’t like rotten meat so depending on the time of year they kill more.

I have about 40 cam pics of different lions. The biggest group I’ve seen was a family of 4. There were 7 total on that water hole. I even got an attempted attack on an elk on my 4K video cam. Lion didn’t get it.

Yes, that's why I was saying maybe the areas with too many deer and wild pigs could use a few big cats. They used to be across the entire US.

Those ^ talking about introducing big cats into territory where wild pigs and deer are a nuisance. People don't realize the consequences of unchecked populations of large herbivores.

Here is a good, but a little extreme, example of the benefits of introducing predators into those kinds of habitats:

Mind blown people eat mountain lion, it would have never entered my mind before this thread. I like eating game so now I kind of want to try it. You can bet if I had family and there were mountain lions coming on my property I'd have a hill of dead mountain lions.

That is really cool. Seems along the lines of bison and the grasslands.

So import a few cats, less damage from wild pigs and deer, and if the population of cats gets out of balance hunters can bring home something a little out of the ordinary for dinner maybe.

I would never have guessed that a feline would be good to eat. Not likely to try it myself, just think I had read that carnivores taste bad vs. herbivores.

Edit- it would be one thing if they were endangered and/or he was poaching. Overpopulation of a predator leads to things like op described where they start feeding on livestock, run wild prey populations down, and make food scarce. Hunting like this helps keep natures balance and the populations in healthy numbers.
Nature doesn't need human intervention to keep balance, it's the abundance of livestock that creates the overabundance of food. Remove that and the cat population would decrease as their competition increases.

There’s a HUGE size difference between the wolves that were native to the area vs the wolves that were released. This is the exact reason my city dwelling soy boy liberals shouldn’t be allowed to have anything to do with national parks or wildlife management.
